What Is It?

Smokeless tobacco is tobacco that is not burned.
There are two main types
-Chewing tobacco-available as loose leaves,plugs(bricks), or twists of rope
-Snuff-finely cut or powdered tobacco

Dangers

-It may cause cancers such as oral,esophageal, or pancreatic cancer
-It may also cause heart and gum disease
-All tobacco products contain nicotine as their addictive agent
-In 1986, the advisory committee to the surgeon general concluded that the use of smokeless tobacco "is not a safe substitute for smoking cigarettes. It can cause cancer and a number of noncancerous oral conditions and can lead to nicotine addiction and dependence"
-There is no safe level of tobacco use

Statistics

-There are 28 chemicals in smokeless tobacco have been found to cause cancer
-Worldwide, tobacco use causes more than five million deaths per year
-In the United States tobacco use is responsible for one in five deaths annually, about 443,000 thousand deaths per year
