MacArthur Elementary School

Notes from the Principal
Dear MacArthur Families,
I would like to thank everyone for working incredibly hard and seeing our kids through these unique circumstances & distance learning. In spite of difficult times, our students, teachers, and parents have shown relentless spirit and I couldn’t be more proud of our MacArthur school family. Through collaboration and team work we showed that we are MacArthur Strong and we can accomplish anything.
A huge THANK YOU to our Cedar Lake First Responders that provided an escort for our 5th Grade Parade.
On behalf of all of us here at MacArthur School I would like to wish everyone a very well deserved summer break. I hope everyone stays safe and healthy.

News from the Director of Curriculum
As we near the end of the school year, we appreciate and thank our parents and caregivers who have supported our students at home during this unique time. We will be following guidance from the Indiana DOE about fourth grading period grades.
Grades should not be punitive. With the circumstances of the fourth grading period and to be fair and equitable, a student’s prior performance during the third grading period will be considered when assigning a grade for the fourth grading period.
Students who have missing assignments have until the end of May 29th to be completed and counted for a grade.
In light of the unique circumstances during this grading period, if a student is earning a grade lower than a C-, a grade of Incomplete will be shown on his or her report card.
If you have questions or need support, please contact your child’s teacher.
Thank you,
Jim Hardman
Director of Curriculum

News from Our School Counselor
Parents,
I cannot believe that the school year has already come to an end. I again want to thank you all for your patience and hard work during distance learning- I know it wasn’t always easy! It was so nice being able to see some smiling faces this week during the student belongings pick up and 5th grade parade. It reminded me just how resilient kids can be! I hope to see everyone again soon! During the summer months, you can still check the local resources page as it will continue to be updated from time to time.
