What Happened?
There were Nine black boys the boarded a train to go find jobs. While on the train they got into a fight with some white men. The train had to stop at the next town immediately to get everyone off the train. When they go the boys to Scottsboro two women got off of the train and accused all of the black boy of raping them on the train.
Ruby Bates
Ruby Bates was a prostitute but didn't want to go to jail for it. So She lied to the cop about the nine boys raping her. Later she confessed to it being a lie with her friend Victoria Price.
Roy Wright
He was 12 and being convicted of rape the never happened. He was sentence to live in prison.
The Scottsboro Police
The police told the two woman to lie and say they were raped. They were way in the south so at this time white people still didn't like black people.
When?
Started in 1931: When they were all going to be killed for what they did.
Many things happened so they weren't killed.
Ended in 1976: When there were all getting out of prison for nothing happening.
Why did it happen?
The Scottsboro boys got on the train and were just looking for jobs. The reason the whole fight started it because that white men didn't want black men talking their jobs or even being on the train. So after everything thing happened the white men had to cover themselves so they didn't get in trouble. So that is why the whole rape thing was brought into place.
How?
It happened because black people weren't treated equal and they weren't getting the best jobs where they were so they went on a train to travel to find new jobs. Not to cause trouble. Segregation is probably the biggest reason why it happened.
