The Lion's Share Newsletter

September 2021

From the Desk of Mr. Miller:

Grant Families,

I hope this newsletter finds you and your family well! I would like to sincerely thank you for attending our "Hello & Popsicles" night, along with our recent Open House! It was so great to be able to see you, say hi, shake hands, and even give out a few hugs! Needless to say, we have missed seeing you in our building! I hope that the beginning of the year has been a good start for you and your Lion(s).

Each month, I will be sending out The Lion's Share Newsletter! My hope is that it will provide you the best place to receive communication and learn about all the happenings taking place at Grant each month. Please be sure to keep your email address up to date with the office, connect with your student's teacher using ClassDojo, and "like" us on Facebook!

As we are just starting our year off, there is a lot of information in this newsletter! I appreciate you reading over everything, and please know, they won't typically be this long!

Your students have all been doing such a great job and are adjusting to life back in the classroom. Being back in the classroom is where we really want them to be. In order to do that, we need to ask for your help. Please keep students home who display any sickness or are not feeling well. We would also appreciate you calling the front office to let us know! As a friendly reminder, please do not send your student(s) to school if you or somebody in your household is awaiting a COVID test. We are working hard to ensure students can stay in school. If you have a positive case in your household, please communicate that information to our office for further guidance.

Lastly, as we begin the year, we are always looking to create strong relationships with all of you at home! We hope you will be involved in your student's education volunteering in the classroom! At this time, we can allow for visitors and volunteers. We would also love it if you could join our wonderful PTA! Our PTA meetings take place on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 6:00-7:00. Our first PTA will actually take place on Tuesday, September 14th, which is the same night as our Skate City event...so stop on by and join us while your Lions are skating the night away! You can follow our PTA/SAC here: https://www.facebook.com/GrantElementaryptasac

I look forward to seeing you around the building and hope you have a wonderful year. As always, if you have any questions, please let me know!

Make it a great one and thank you,

Ryan Miller

2nd Cup of Coffee

Do you enjoy your coffee and a nice morning treat? Well, we would love to have you join us at our very first 2nd Cup of Coffee here at Grant on Thursday, September 16th from 8:15-9:00! Starbucks Coffee and Dunkin' Donuts will be provided! The idea behind this is to have parents come in to learn about the great initiatives we have going on here at Grant, while getting your input and thoughts to help shape those initiatives. We really want to hear from YOU and we hope you can join us. We will host 2nd Cup of Coffee every month!

Parking on Shadowglen Before & After School

Grant families, as you drop off and pick up each day on the Shadowglen side of our building, we ask that you please be mindful of a few things in order to ensure we have a smooth drop off and pick up!

  • Only park in the blue handicap portion if you have a valid placard! We have many families that need and use this area. We understand that you may only be there for a few minutes, but ask that you do not park there at all without a valid placard.
  • Please be mindful of our neighbors by not parking in their driveways or blocking their driveways. Each year, we have neighbors that are unable to get into or out of their home due to their driveway being blocked.
  • Please don't let your student run across the street unattended! We have cars that drive quickly on this street and with so many cars and busses parked, many times those drivers don't see you students running across the road.
  • Finally, please know that our yellow bus zone is for D11 busses and all daycare busses/vans. Please do not park in the yellow bus zone. Once all D11 busses and daycare busses/vans are gone, it is okay to park there. Please know that all of our busses will get priority parking in order to drop off and pick up students.

Attendance Information

As a friendly reminder, we REALLY want your students here! Please have students at school at 7:45, so they can start their morning off right with breakfast in the classroom and morning routines. Also, Colorado Attendance Law states that any student that arrives 20 minutes after the first bell (8:20 or after) must be marked absent for the morning attendance session. Likewise, any student that is picked up 20 minutes or more before the end of day bell (before 2:10) will be marked absent for the afternoon attendance session.

Having your students at Grant on time is so incredibly important to both the student and teacher. It really helps to start the morning off smoothly for everyone. If your student will be absent, please be sure to call the attendance line at 719.328.5712.

Important Title I Information!

Families, we need your help! Please be sure to apply for Free or Reduced Meals! It is a bit confusing as all meals are free for every student this year, however, when you apply, you may help Grant out with maintaining its Title I budget of nearly $340,000! If we lose our Title I status, we will lose that budget. With our Title I budget, we purchase technology for every student, are creating a STEAM lab, pay for extra interventionist and teachers to help with small group reading support, help with field trips, and so much more! If we lose our budget, we will not be able to support those items listed above! It is quick, easy, and simple to do! Please visit https://www.myschoolapps.com to apply! We really do appreciate the support.

Grant Chipotle Night!!!

Be sure to tell your family, friends, and neighbors about Grant's Chipotle Night! This year, our Chipotle Night will take place on Saturday, September 11th from 4:00-8:00 at our local Chipotle located at 5079 N. Academy Blvd.! All you have to do is let your cashier know that you are there to support Grant before they ring you up! Chipotle will donate a nice portion of your entire bill back to the school! We only do this once a year, so we hope you can make it out!

Get Your Pizza Palz!

What goes better with summer than a delicious pizza from Old Chicago? We are currently selling Pizza Palz in the office! For $15.00, you can purchase a Pizza Palz card which will give you the opportunity to buy any pizza from Old Chicago up to $30.00! We usually sell out of these, so be sure to get them while you can. Also, your Pizza Palz purchase will be helping to support our wonderful PTA!
