College Spotlight-CSU Monterey Bay
Serving 486,000 students across 23 campuses, the California State University system plays an integral role in transforming the state and the lives of its people through higher education. The CSU is the largest and one of the most affordable university systems in the U.S! 21 of 23 campuses are Hispanic Serving Institutions and the CSU confers more than half of undergraduate degrees earned by California’s Latinx, African American and Native American students.
CSU Monterey Bay Cal State Monterey Bay provides over 7,500 students an extraordinary opportunity to learn on a residential campus just one mile from the shores of the beautiful Monterey Bay. The diverse student body receives personal attention in small classes while pursuing degrees in 25 undergraduate and seven graduate majors including unique majors such as Marine Science, Sustainable Hospitality Management, and Collaborative Health and Human Services.
While it serves students from the entire state of California, 38 percent of undergraduates come from Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz counties. CSUMB prides itself on making higher education accessible to traditionally underserved and low-income populations. Seventy-two percent of students receive some form of financial aid. Fifty-three percent of students are among the first generation of their families to go to college. And with 52 percent of our students living on campus, it is one of the most residential universities in the CSU.
