One Book, One Cozad 2016

Selection: Four Blue Stars in the Window by Barbara Mohrman

Books to be available in January

In January 2016, the Wilson Public Library will launch their second One Book, One Cozad program with the selection of Four Blue Stars in the Window by Barbara Eymann Mohrman. The book is the gritty story of hard-scrabble life in rural Oakdale, Nebraska starting in the heyday of the 1920s along the banks of the meandering Elkhorn River.

The Eymanns, as Swiss immigrants, raise ten children on the Dust Bowl-ravaged plains during the heart of the Great Depression. Their greatest sacrifice, however, is yet to come. The Eymanns send four sons off to World War II on behalf of their adopted country, with their mother’s flag and its four blue stars on a white field proudly displaying the family’s precious contribution to the war effort. The story comes full circle with surprising news and comes to life with the vintage photos throughout the book.

Regularly scheduled book discussions will be held monthly at the library for all interested persons beginning in February, with the author making several guest appearances throughout 2016 in conjunction with One Book, One Cozad. Wilson Public Library is also encouraging all local book clubs to thoughtfully consider adding Four Blue Stars in the Window to their selection lists for 2016.

A special set of books will be set aside at the circulation desk for all of 2016 for those wishing to check out the book. Additionally, a special tab on the library’s website at www.wilsonpubliclibrary.com will have up-to-date information regarding upcoming events. Retail stores will be contacted in Cozad as to having the book available for purchase; it is also a Kindle edition e-book on amazon.com.
