Principal's Message
Dear Families,
I'm so excited for our upcoming Read-a-thon! I hope all adults will join in on the fun (staff and families too!). The Book Fair is starting on October 15th...which is a great place to stock up on books for all the reading we'll be doing! 🙂
I need to share another THANK YOU to the Garden Work Party Volunteers. My blisters are just starting to heal! It was definitely a labor of love!! I'm always inspired by all the ways our community shows up and supports Bethany. You're amazing!
Enjoy the three-day weekend and continued beautiful weather. I hope you have a chance to get outside and spend quality time with your children.
With Gratitude,
Ms. Rosenquist

Bethany's Annual Read-A-Thon
This year we are thrilled to once again offer online fundraising via 99Pledges https://app.99pledges.com/fund/bsptoread2022! The online platform makes it easy to reach out and connect with friends and family across your community. Students can set up their individual pledge page in 3 easy steps!
Click on “Add Participant” at the bottom of the page and provide the requested information to create an individual student pledge page, join your class & even add a photo!
Share the link to your profile page via email, Facebook, text or other electronic method of choice!
It is that easy!
While the use of 99Pledges for fundraising is highly encouraged, students will have the option of also collecting pledges manually as done in the past. Pledge packets & instructions will be sent home with your student on Monday.
Whether using 99Pledges or the manual pledge sheets, remember that sometimes a personal request from your child, in person or over the phone, goes a long way!
All pledges must be input online or returned to the office by the cutoff date of Monday November 7, 2022 to be counted toward school rewards and prizes.
***Manual pledges will not appear in the 99Pledges fundraising progress reports for the student, their class, or the school. All pledges, both handwritten and online, received by the cutoff date of November 7 will be counted and included with the fundraising totals that will be announced and used to determine prizes.***
Corporate Match
Did you know that your company may match your donation? Corporate match is the easy way for donors to double their gift! Corporate match funds ARE counted towards your student's fundraising total. (Just be sure to include a receipt with their name for all matched donations.) Click on the following link to learn more:

Here are a few Helpful tips from Dorian Studios
- Schedule haircuts 7-10 days prior to picture day!
- Wear simple clothing. Solid shirts or small patterns, along with sleeves, photograph best. A simple collared shirt is a timeless classic.
- Avoid logos and text on clothing. Graphics or wording may not photograph completely and can become partially cropped out of your picture.

School Absences
School Birthday Policy
We've had several inquiries about birthday celebrations at school. I wasn't able to find a written policy for Bethany and all schools have slightly different rules. In my 24 years in schools, I have seen a variety of policies and the impact on individual students and the class as a whole.
For a variety of reasons, including health, safety (COVID and allergies), disruption to instructional time, and hurt feelings, we will NOT be celebrating individual student birthdays at school. Teachers acknowledge students with birthdays in a variety of ways (class singing, a sticker, birthday pencil, special jobs, etc). We want every child to feel special on their birthday without having a potential negative impact on the rest of the class.
We know the requests to celebrate your child come from such a beautiful and loving place. ❤️ One thing you might consider is donating a favorite book to the class library in honor of your child or having them bring a favorite book to be read aloud (arrange with the teacher first). Party invitations may not be distributed at school (even if they are for the whole class). Thank you for understanding.
We are working with the PTO to publish a school directory. If you would like to be included please fill out this link: Bethany Family Directory
School Directory
We are in the process of creating a Bethany Family Directory, that will be shared with the families at Bethany. If you would like to be included, please fill out this form:
If you do not fill out the form, your information will not be included.
Once it is ready, it will be sent out to those families who participated.
Will You Be gone for an Extended time?
Parents/Guardians: Please note if your child will be out of school for an extended period of time (10 days or more), you must fill out a Notice of Pre-Arranged Absence form, which you can pick up in the office. This form must be turned into the office at least ONE WEEK before the date the absence begins. Please contact the office if you have any questions. Thank you!

There are a lot of projects going on, and many ways to get involved. We understand that not everyone can attend the meeting, and there are many ways to support our students - thank you for everything you're doing to strengthen our community!
If you missed the meeting and you'd like to read the minutes, they're always available publicly at https://www.bspto.org/minutes.
Bethany Social Media
We are on Social Media! We have been posting fun pictures and videos, so be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook. You can click on the links below and still see the posts without having these apps.
We are in the process of taking pictures from different areas of the school. We may post pictures or videos, but there will be no names associated with the pictures. If you would prefer that we don't publish a picture of your child, please send me an email to: Sue_Kropilak@beaverton.k12.or.us

5th Grade - Weekly News
The 5th grade teachers have created a matching grant fundraiser. Your support can help our students connect to the world around them through individual subscriptions to The Week Junior. By introducing a steady flow of current events into our classroom, our kids will be better informed and better prepared for the bigger conversations we hope to have around rights, responsibility and community.
If you would like to donate towards our project please click on this link:
*The BEF New Project Match will match the first $500 in contributions to this project.
Leave a Lasting Print at Bethany Elementary!
With each $150 donation your personal message will be etched on a charm and permanently hung on the central fence of Bethany Elementary School Playground. The money raised will go towards funding playground improvements and future PTO projects!
Complete this google form to secure your charm. A member of the PTO will contact you to confirm your charm text and arrange payment.

You can follow the instructions below to pay online.
2022-2023 Meal Benefits
EVERY family needs to apply if they want Meal Benefits for 2022-2023.
- The free meal program has ended. Income guidelines have risen significantly.
For example, a family of four can have a total household income of up to $83,249 and qualify for meal benefits!
- Meal benefits application can be done online on our app SCHOOL CAFE, an account will need to be set up.
- Make sure to apply during summer since applications from last year are expiring at the end of June.
Please consider applying if you feel your family may qualify. It is confidential, school staff have no way of knowing which students have benefits and which do not. We highly recommend families applying.
Local Levy
On November 8, 2022, voters will have the opportunity to decide whether to renew a 5-year local option levy. If passed, the proposed levy renewal would fund approximately 286 teaching positions, maintain class sizes and help prepare students for post-high school endeavors. The proposed levy renewal is projected to raise approximately $39-$43 million annually; over a 5-year period, the proposed levy renewal would raise about $205 million.
If passed, the proposed levy renewal would continue the existing tax rate of $1.25 per $1,000 of assessed property value.
If the proposed levy renewal does not pass, the levy rate would not be assessed. The District would not receive about $39 million to fund 286 teaching positions, maintain class sizes and help prepare students for post-high school endeavors, starting in the 2023-2024 school year.
The current local option levy expires on June 30, 2023. More information on the Levy
