October 9, 2023
Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Ms. Lira’s 1st grade classroom where students were busy working in small groups or partnerships on math. What made this visit extra special was that it was also “stuffy day” in class and students had the opportunity to practice their math alongside their favorite stuffed animals from home. I spent some time with Jema and Amarion who had given their stuffed animals a place at the table and were showing them how to make numbers between 1 and 6 that they rolled on their dice! In addition to being a fun collaborative learning opportunity, this was also a great opportunity for students to demonstrate their care for others as they showed interest in one another’s stuffed animals and ensured that all stuffed animals were well taken care of at school!

FRANKLIN FORWARD UPDATES
As we shared in last Thursday’s District Newsletter, Franklin Forward encompasses our Long-Range Facility Planning for the future. Through Franklin Forward, we look to bring together the best we can for our students and community in terms of infrastructure, safety & security, and our educational learning environments. Our updates will continue to be placed in the District Newsletters. Since this is new, we are sharing this recent update here in your building bulletin so you know to look for them going forward in the District Newsletters.
This week’s update:
Part 2 of master facilities planning was presented and encompassed debriefing on recent Board Member tours of FPS facilities, closer looks at CD, RW, and FHS in regards to facility needs and enrollment impact, a discussion of guiding principles for this work and a gantt chart timeline for this overall process.
We are developing a page for our website that will house all updates and information around this process. We will share that in an upcoming District Newsletter.

The sessions will be led by our Franklin Firefighters and Ricely Restaurant Group McDonald’s has partnered with us to offer a sweet treat for their learning! Students that help prevent household fires by completing the checklist on the flyer will receive a sweet treat! Accomplish those four tasks together and receive one free cone or cookie at the McDonald’s located at 7501 W Rawson Ave. Thank you for helping make our student's homes and families safe! Flyers will come home with the students so they can check off their items but you can also see the image here. Thank you to the FFD and Ricely for providing this opportunity to help teach our students about the importance of keeping their home safe!
