Congratulations to these 12 Huskies on their audition and a wonderful concert Saturday night!

Phones

We are asking for assistance with cell phones.

Beginning Monday, we will take phones up in the hallway. Ear buds are also not allowed in the halls. Please assist us in reminding students that phones are allowed before the first bell, after the last bell, and at lunch.

Students should also NOT use their phones in the halls to call parents/guardians. Please do not allow them to "step" outside to use their phones. If a student is in need of contacting home, please direct them to the office. Once there, they any either use the school phone or their personal phone.

HEB Excellence in Education Nominee

Congratulations Tim Brooks. Mr. Brooks has been identified as an outstanding educator and was nominated for the 2019 H-E-B Excellence in Education Award.

This program is designed to recognize the accomplishments of outstanding public school educators, districts, early childhood facilities and school boards across Texas.

Please give Mr. Brooks a pat on the back when you see him!

SHP -Johnson County

This organization has beds available and ready for delivery. Please share the resource with your families in need. Below is short description of their service and a link to the referral. You can also find their brochure in our Community Resources folder. For those who qualify (children 3-17 years of age who are sleeping on the floor), we can provide a bed, mattress, pillow, and bedding. Individuals can fill out a form requesting a bed for their children or on behalf of someone else (a counselor, etc) via the SHP home page (www.shpbeds.org). We deliver to all of Johnson County and up to a 30-mile radius of Burleson.

TCU Research Opportunity for students

TCU has an outstanding research opportunity for Secondary students: the Research Apprentices Program. Students are paired with TCU professors who provide research opportunities concerning topics of interest to the student.

These research opportunities have led to paid and unpaid internships for BISD students, and the first two BISD Seniors who participated in this program graduated just this year.

Both cited the TCU program on their student resumes. One received $160,000 in scholarships and is continuing his research at university, and the other received $175,000 in scholarships and is on a full ride at university. These research opportunities make learning more relevant to our students and immerse them in college activities at an early age.

It also helps them decide what career choice may be of most interest to them. At this writing, we have middle and high school students participating in the Research Apprentices Program, and hope your students may join them!
