Toms River High School South

August 2021

Dear TR HS South Family,

Once again, it is time for parents and students to start planning and preparing for another school year. We welcome back a full day and the “new normal” in our routines as we remain committed to provide our children with the confidence, knowledge and skills to successfully pursue their future college and career endeavors. We believe this process will be a reflection of developing personal relationships with our students through meaningful social, emotional, behavioral, and character skill development and effective instruction. Our school growth teams have spent the summer restructuring our curriculum and subsequent strategies to engage our students more efficiently and effectively in our 2021-2022 school year. Please review the district’s website (https://www.trschools.com) for specific details as to strategies, grading policies, attendance expectations, support services, as well as our Toms River South’s site with information specific to our great school . On behalf of the entire Tribe here at South, Welcome Back as 2022 is going to be all about you!

As we get back to our normal routine, this is a reminder that all students are expected to NOT have earbuds or headphones on in the building as well as hats and hoods on their heads. It is important that we adhere to these regulations to ensure the safety of everyone. With nearly 1450 students in the halls every 42 minutes it is extremely important that our staff and students can identify who is in the building at all times. Also, as I am a music lover myself, having the earbuds in and on would make it impossible to hear if we had to have an emergency announcement, evacuation or lockdown. For those reasons, I kindly ask for your continued support and cooperation to make sure our students have a healthy and safe educational environment.

Effective communication is essential to quality education. Very often a question or concern can be addressed and problems prevented by contacting your child’s teacher or guidance counselor; at times it is necessary to speak to an administrator; each of the assistant principals has a grade level assignment. I encourage you to contact the guidance department (732-505-5745) if you would like to speak to the counselor or the main office (732-505-5734) to speak to the appropriate administrator should you have any concerns. Additionally, all South staff members can be reached at their Toms River Schools e-mail, which can be found on the district web page.

Additionally, please take the time to fill out your child’s emergency information on the Parent Portal the first week of school. Please make sure all information is up to date and all contact numbers are current. Also, in our efforts to minimize paper usage, STUDENT SCHEDULES, progress reports and quarterly grades are accessible through our Genesis Portal. All parents and guardians are urged to set up a parent portal account if they have not already done so.

My best wishes that you enjoy the remaining days of summer.

AS "THE Chief not in a HAT" would say:

As we head back to the Halls

We all know and all love

It will be a great Leap of Faith

From someone or something from above

As getting back into a routine might be your concern

Worry Not Young Indian, I am on it and we are all here to Learn

Rest easy these dog days of summer

Be excited, Don't Hide

Come September....OOOHHHH September is THE RETURN OF SOUTH PRIDE!!!!!!

Proudly,

Michael Citta

Message from our Nurse's Office

Dear Parents/ Guardians:

The "School Health Program" designed to improve, protect, and promote the health of all students has been delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions. As a result of COVID-19, the school nurses will not be providing students with health screenings this year. Please contact your child's school nurse, if there is a specific concern regarding your child's health.

Furthermore, the Academy of Pediatrics recommends all children to have a yearly wellness visit. If your child has received his/her annual physical from a pediatrician, please forward a copy of the physical to the school nurse.
