ATTRA, Western SARE, Montana State University, University of Wyoming, and University of Idaho are teaming up to offer a webinar training: Integrated Parasite Management: Sheep. The training will be held Thursday, October 22 from 12:30 to 3 pm. It will include FAMACHA© instruction. Register at https://attra.ncat.org/ipm-training/. It is the last IPM training in the Western SARE IPM Train the Trainer Project that has focused on Intermountain West irrigated pasture-raised sheep.

Video: Measuring Packed Cell Volume

The latest Facebook live video from Texas A&M AgriLife's is about measuring packed cell volume to determine anemia and parasite resistance. The 2 minute 37 second Youtube video is presented by Jake Thorne, an Extension Assistant. Thorne was the recent recipient of the Sheep Heritage Foundation Scholarship, which he will use to complete his PhD remotely through the University of Idaho.

New Small Ruminant Specialist

Dr. Andrew Weaver has been hired as the new Small Ruminant Specialist at North Carolina State University. Dr. Weaver grew up in central Michigan and was active in 4-H. He is a graduate of Michigan State University, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia University.

Blueprint for Selecting Parasite Resistant Sheep: A Shepherd's Perspective

The concept of selecting parasite resistant sheep is simple: consistently select the animals with the best resistance. Putting the concept into practice, however, can be more challenging. This paper will share some of the lessons learned over the last 10 years through several North Central Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (NC SARE) grants and on-farm experience.

American Consortium for Small Ruminant Parasite Control (ACSRPC)

The ACSRPC is a group of scientists, veterinarians, and extension specialists dedicated to helping small ruminant producers control GI parasites in their flocks and herds. The consortium was formed in 2003 in response to the critical state of the small ruminant industry associated with the emergence of anthelmintic resistant worms.
