Justification for Convention Attendance
Below are just a few of the speakers that will be presenting at the Lansing Convention!
Sue Kendall - Peace Coach
Social Emotional Learning & Practice: We PE teachers know the importance of practice and repetition when it comes to ‘sports skills’. Why not apply that same practice and repetition to ‘peace skills’? In this presentation you will see how tweaking games you're already doing that kids love is an easy and effective way to do so. Some of the skills we’ll look at are “telling the truth”, “standing up for your self”, “standing up for others”, “showing empathy”, “integrating”, “including others”, etc… Be the leader of PEace in your school!
Nicki Schlicht - Mt Pleasant Public Schools
POUND for Schools: Inspire. Motivate. Ignite. Harness the power of movement and music to encourage today's youth to move and make noise! POUND for schools is a curriculum-based program designed exclusively for educators looking to integrate POUND in their PE classes. Using Ripstix, students will learn alternative ways to explore movement, embrace their creativity, promote social-emotional learning and ROCK out building strength, confidence, and self-awareness.
Brian Parker - Hooten Foundation
Keely Tamer - Great Lakes Regional Field Hockey
Molly Collins - Pennfield Community Schools
Advocating in a New Age: As a school, we are the center of our community so getting involved is key to not only school success but community health and success. See how I fundraise with community partnerships. How I use social media to advocate and highlight my students, our school, and the community. Overall, have created a "brand" for physical and health education as a community need not just a class.
