Mission and Vision

The mission of the Science Teachers Association of Texas (STAT) is to build a community dedicated to advancing science teaching and learning. The vision of the Science Teachers Association of Texas (STAT) is to establish STAT as a resource for science education so that all students are scientifically and technologically literate, responsible, and productive citizens

Costs to Join

For current teachers the cost to join is $30 per year. For retired teachers and students the cost is $10 per year.

CAST Annual Conference

The Conference for the Advancement of Science Teaching will be November 12th through 14th at the Fort Worth Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas. Registration is $180 or for retired teachers or students, $30.

This conference is nation's largest statewide meeting of Science Teachers.

Leadership Opportunities

There are a few positions at STAT that are appointed, non-elected, positions such as: Executive Director, Texas Education Agency Representative, Assistant Executive Director, STATELLITE Editor and CAST Exhibits Manager.

All other positions are elected by members and they are accepting nominations now for 2016-2017 including:

  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • 3 Member-at-Large Positions

In general STAT seems like a pretty great organization. The cost is fairly low compared to many other organizations especially considering the very long list of member benefits. The mentorship program is really unique and gives members a chance to learn from others and share their experiences. You also get access to their handouts, quarterly newsletter, and journal; all full of great ideas and information that can directly affect you as a science teacher. This organization is now on my short-list of ones to join!
