St. Peter's Welcomes New Pastor
St. Peter's Parish and School will welcome their new pastor, Fr. Angelo Patti, to St. Peter's this week. Fr. Patti has been the pastor of St. Andrew's Parish in Johnstown and will officially begin his tenure here at St. Peter's on December 12th. The school will celebrate its first Mass with Fr. Patti at the December 14th school Mass. We look forward to welcoming Fr. Patti to our school family and wish him many years of good health and blessings at St. Peter's.
Nativity Play and Traditions Create Christmas Spirit for St. Peter's
On Friday, December 14th, Grades 4 & 6 will present this year's Christmas Nativity Play, "Star of Wonder." The play will begin immediately after the regular School Mass which will begin 1/2 hour earlier at 10:45 am that day. We hope all of our school families will come enjoy this special presentation. Special thanks to Mrs. Close, Mrs. Stiffler, Mrs. Holloway and Mrs. Mateljan for their help organizing this year's play and helping it all come together! Our Advent Family Prayer Exchange will end next week when we go home for Christmas break. Families are encouraged to send in a card to the family they have been praying for this Advent to reveal who they are. The kids truly enjoy delivering these cards before Christmas break. Our "Gifts for Baby Jesus" table is filling up with donations as well. Please turn in items by December 19th so we can deliver them to Birthright of Somerset, Inc. before Christmas. We would also like to ask students to bring in a Christmas tree ornament either one per student or one per family to hang on the school's Christmas tree in the church through the Christmas season. Please be sure ornaments are marked with the family or student names and they will be returned to their owners after Christmas. Please bring ornaments in by next Friday, December 21st, when we will place them on the tree at our school Mass that day. Students will also be bringing home their supply pouches for the Christmas break to be cleaned out and restocked for the new year! See you in 2019!
PTA Update "Seeking Voices and Ideas"
Our PTA has hosted various successful fundraisers and events so far this year including the "Back to School Picnic," the annual Spaghetti Dinner, multiple Hot Lunches, a Halloween Dance, a Fall Crop, a Christmas Craft & Vendor Sale and a School Hoodie Sale. We are so grateful for all the love and dedication from all our families through these events and all the volunteering that family members do each week in and out of our school. As the PTA moves forward they have decided to get some input from all school families about how to allocate their funds for the school. Each family will be receiving an email from the PTA using the School Messenger system later this week. There is a link in the email that will take you to our PTA survey on Survey Monkey. The survey only consists of two questions. The first will ask participants to rank possible projects from 1 to 6. These are the projects that have been discussed at previous meetings. The second question allows you to input any other ideas you would like to have considered. All surveys are to be completed by December 19th. The top projects will be voted on at the next PTA meeting which will be January 14th at. All are invited to attend this meeting as well as all meetings. Thank you to our amazing PTA!
'Gearing Up' for Winter 2018
As the temperatures drop and the first sight of fluttering snowflakes is upon us, its time to revisit school policies concerning winter-wear.
- If the temperatures are in the 40's or below, students must have a winter coat for recess or gym class
- If the temperatures are in the 30's or "feels like" 30's, students must have a hat for recess or gym class (ear muffs and winter headbands permitted - hoods not sufficient)
- If there is snow on the ground, students are to wear boots to school (as easy on and off as possible) and bring appropriate shoes for the day. Boots, fashion boots or booties are not to be worn as regular shoes. If there is snow on the ground or excessive slush, students will also be required to have boots to go to wear to gym class and bring tennis shoes to change into.
- Reminder that as of September, girls are only to be wearing plaid skirts or jumpers. Navy pants are permitted on any non-Mass day as well. Navy pants are to be dress pants and not "jeggings" or lycra type pants.
- As a policy, the school does not call home for shoes or boots if forgotten.
- In the event of a school delay or cancellation due to weather, parents will receive a phone call and text message in the early morning. We will also notify WJAC-TV to be listed on their website and the news.
- In the event of an "early out" due to weather, parents will receive a phone call and text message as soon as we are notified. Only call the school if changes need to be made to transportation.
- Students in Rockwood, North Star, Berlin, Rockwood school districts are reminded that they will follow their local school district for transportation in them mornings. If a student arrives later because his or her school district had a delay and we did not, they are not marked tardy.
