American Revolution: Traveling Haversack Kit (051776)

This kit is designed to introduce the life of a soldier at the time of the War for American Independence.
The haversack contains reproductions of items that would provide sustenance or comfort. Laminated cards accompany each of the items with quotes from original sources. There is a glossary of terms for each bag as well as a list of questions for students to answer. Each kit contains six discovery bags and each bag contains two laminated Discovery Card describing the contents of each bag. Bag 1: Women in the Army: Sewing kit: spool of thread, spool of shoemaker thread, scissors, wooden thimble, pin case with pins and needles, spare buttons. Bag 2: Drink: Tin Cup. Bag 3: Food: Wooden bowl and wooden spoon. Bag 4: Cleanliness: Horn comb, shaving brush, and shaving block with soap. Bag 5: Pay and Money: Laminated Continental Currency, and reproduced coins. Bag 6: Gambling: One deck of playing cards (52 cards) and three wooden dice.
