THANK YOU ICCS ADVISORY BOARD

The final ICCS Advisory Board meeting of the school year will take place next Wednesday, May 19. We would like to thank the 2020-2021 Advisory Board members for their dedication and service to our school community: Carey Blevins, Matthew Devall, Corlissa Hoffoss, Matthew Keating, Donald Brinkman, Robin Austin, Christy Papania-Jones, Father Rommel Tolentino, and Principal, Christi Jarreau.

As Matthew Devall completes his 3-year commitment as a parent representative on the Advisory Board later this month, a new member was recently elected by ICCS parents to take his place for the next term. The Advisory Board welcomes John Gregory to the team. John is the father of John Parker Gregory (Kindergarten) and Kinley Gregory (PK). John and his wife, Megan, are parishioners of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church.

THANK YOU SHEARMAN FAMILY

The sign in front of our school building has been around for many years. It is an iconic landmark and was most recently refurbished by the ICCS Class of 2018. For decades, parents and students have utilized the ICCS sign as the perfect backdrop for "first day of school" keepsake photographs. Unfortunately, the sign was destroyed by Hurricane Laura in August and has not been replaced....until now!

Current ICCS "Grandpanthers," and parents of five former ICCS students, Claire and Doug Shearman had the sign recreated and installed this week. We are grateful for Mr. and Mrs. Shearman's generosity and thoughtfulness. The new sign donation arrived just in time for ICCS families to snap "end-of-the-year" photos to commemorate the 2020-2021 school term.

ICCS AMBASSADOR FAMILIES NEEDED

In August, we will welcome over 40 new families to ICCS. In an effort to introduce, engage and immerse these new students and parents into the ICCS community and culture, a Family Ambassador program will be implemented. The goal of the program is to help our newest school community members feel immediately welcomed and help them navigate and transition to a new school environment quickly and smoothly.

Current ICCS Family Ambassadors are needed. Commitments include:

  • Connecting with a new ICCS family in June 2021 via phone or email to officially welcome them to our school community. Possibly set up a play date or opportunity to meet in person as a family over the summer months.
  • Check-in with the new family periodically throughout the 2021-2022 academic year to answer parent-related questions and/or to direct them to school staff for additional information or assistance.
  • Encourage the new parents to get involved in school-related volunteer opportunities and programs such as PTO fundraisers, Room Parent program, Enrollment Open House events, monthly school Masses, etc.
  • Serve as a friendly parent resource for the new family throughout the 2021-2022 school year when needed.

If you are interested in being paired with one of our new 2021-2022 incoming families, please contact Kay Morgan by email at kmorgan@iccsweb.com, or by phone at (337) 433-3497. Current families will be paired with new families according to the incoming student's grade/age and other similarities and interests.

COMMUNITY COFFEE CASH FOR SCHOOLS PROGRAM

Great news! ICCS received a check for $514.80 from the Community Coffee Cash For Schools program this week. Please continue to clip Cash For School UPC codes from bags and boxes of your favorite Community Coffee products. Every label counts.

The final coffee label collection of the year will take place between now and Friday, May 28. Please send all Community Coffee Cash For Schools labels to school with your child in a ziplock bag.

Thank you to ICCS parent volunteer, Rebecca Roach for coordinating and organizing the Community Coffee Cash for Schools, Box Tops for Education, and Coke Rewards programs for ICCS for several years now. Rebecca's daughter will be graduating from 8th Grade soon and the Roach family will be moving on to high school. We are in search of a new parent volunteer to take over these free cash programs for our school community. Volunteers receive full PTO credit (300 PTO points) for their service and time. All volunteer duties can be conducted from home. To learn more, or to volunteer, please contact Kay Morgan at kmorgan@iccsweb.com or Rebecca Roach at rebroach@hotmail.com.

THE VIRTUE OF COURTESY

All PK-8th Grade students are focusing on the virtue of Courtesy this month. Courtesy means treating other people with respect, recognizing that all are made in God's image and likeness.

COURTESY LOOKS LIKE:

  • Letting others go first
  • Letting others speak first
  • Making eye contact
  • Holding the door for another
  • Picking up a dropped item for someone

COURTESY SOUNDS LIKE:
  • "You can go ahead of me."
  • "You can ask your question first."
  • "Let me hold the door for you."
  • "Let me get that for you."

Members of “Team Egypt” received their ICCS Olympic Gold Medals and were treated to donuts before school on Monday.

Congratulations to the Silver Medal winners, "Team Columbia" and Bronze Medal winners (a tie), "Team Sweden" AND "Team Russia." Way to go, ICCS Olympic Athletes!

LIVING OUT THE VIRTUES

Our 1st Grade classes have been reviewing all of the virtues we have studied this school year: kindness, prayerfulness, generosity, trustworthiness, patriotism, obedience, respect, gratitude, and courtesy. Mrs. Koenig's students completed a special activity and selected their favorite virtue for a class photo.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MOVIE NIGHT

A BIG ICCS thank you to the ICCS Student Council members and sponsor, Mrs. Aimee Romano, for coordinating the Middle School Movie Night on May 7 on the school playground. The 6th-8th Grade students enjoyed watching a movie under the stars.

MAY AND JUNE BIRTHDAY MASS CELEBRATED LAST WEEK

All PK-8th Grade students celebrated the May and June Birthday Mass last Friday, May 7, on the ICCS playground. Father Brian King, along with our 8th Grade students, led the Mass.

Happy Birthday to all ICCS students, faculty members, parents, siblings, Grandpanthers, and alumni celebrating a Birthday in the month of May and June.

MAY CROWNING

It is an ICCS tradition, the Crowing of Mary. Throughout the month of May, we formally recognize Mary as the Queen of Heaven and Earth and celebrate our love and affection for her by bringing her flowers and spending time in prayer as a class or grade.

We crowned Mary during the May and June Birthday Mass last Friday. 2020-2021 ICCS Students of the Year, Owen Schwem (8th Grade) and Meg Austin (5th Grade) were selected to officially crown Mary this school year. Father Brian King led the special blessing and our 8th Grade students laid flowers at the foot of the Mary statue during the prayer service.

REMINDER! PK-2nd Grade students will bring flowers for Mary next week. Please see the schedule below for more details.

PRAYER AGAINST THE CORONAVIRUS

O Mary, you shine continuously along our journey as a sign of salvation and hope.

We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the Cross were near to the pain of Jesus, keeping your faith firm.

You, Salvation of the Roman people, know what we need, and we trust that you will provide for those needs so that, as at Cana of Galilee, joy and celebration may return after this moment of trial.

Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the will of the Father and to do what Jesus tells us, He who took our sufferings upon Himself, and took up our sorrows to bring us, through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen.

We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas – we who are put to the test – and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.
