"Bee" in the Know
Week of May 14 , 2023
SOL testing is underway and the main AP testing window is now complete! Our students and staff are managing testing and changes in schedules tremendously well! We wish our students the best of luck through the remainder of the testing season. We are just a month away from celebrating our graduating class of 2023 and the end of the school year for our underclassmen! While the time is short, let’s all work to maximize the opportunities to end the year on a positive note!
Additionally, please remember that daily attendance is imperative to student success. Please remember to send in a note for any excused absence and to track student attendance regularly in ParentVue. If you have questions about your student’s attendance, please reach out to your Alpha Administrative Assistant or Alpha Administrator.

FACS Department News
If you trek down to the Family and Consumer Sciences department you will see 2 beautiful tower gardens sprouting an array of edible greenery including varieties of lettuces and herbs. The students in Nutrition & Wellness used the produce this past week in their Walking Tacos Lab. The tower gardens are quite pricey, however, Ms. Stouffer wrote a SPARK grant and was awarded it this school year (which is how we purchased them). Stay tuned to see what we grow next year!
Did you know 25% of what goes into the landfill is food waste? We are trying to do our part here at OP to decrease our food waste 'footprint'. Right outside Room 1503/the FACS dept, you will see our Food Share Table. Students or staff can place unopened, unwanted food or drink items on the table or in the mini fridge, or if hungry, they can take a food or drink item from the table. Not only does this initiative decrease the food waste that OP produces, but it helps those that may be hungry before school, in between class or after school, too. Take part in these awesome activities and you can help the earth be a better place, or take a FACS class next year to learn more!

Spring Regular Season Wrap Up!
All of our teams compete in a super tough Cedar Run District. We are so proud of all of their individual and team accomplishments!
Tennis:
Both Boys and Girls finished their respective district schedule with a team record 6-8. Unfortunately, this was not enough to advance on to the team Region 6B tournament.
Boys LAX:
Our Boys team was able to finish the regular season with a 6th seed in the District tournament to advance to the post season in the Cedar Run District Boys Lax Tournament. After a valiant effort, their season ended with a loss to a very tough Patriot team 19-5.
Girls LAX:
Unfortunately, our girls LAX team was not able to advance to the post season. We had 24 girls in the program, many of whom have had little experience playing lacrosse. We are excited to continue growing the program and hope to have enough girls next year to play both a JV and Varsity schedule.
Girls Soccer:
The girls soccer program finished the regular season as the 6th seed in the Cedar Run District Tournament. They will travel on Monday 5/15 to a school TBD as they hope to advance into the 2nd round of the District Tournament and compete for a spot in the Region 6B tournament. Special shout out to our JV program on their impressive 4 wins that they have been able to achieve this year. This is the most wins for our girls JV program in the last 5 seasons.
Boys Soccer:
Boys soccer has earned a 3rd seed in the Cedar Run District Tournament and the right to host a home game on 5/15 (opponent TBD). Game time will be 6PM. They, like the girls, will be competing for 1 of 3 spots that will allow them to advance to the 6B Region Tournament.
Baseball:
Our Baseball team is currently 6-7 with one game remaining (as of this writing) vs. Osbourn. The team has locked in a #5 seed in the Cedar Run District Tournament and will travel to Gainesville this Monday 5/15 for a 6PM 1st pitch in the 1st round of the Cedar Run District Tournament. They, like our soccer programs, will be fighting for 1 of the 3 spots from our district that advance to the Region 6B Tournament. One of the many highlights for our team....was beating Patriot earlier in the year.
Softball:
Our Softball team is currently 11-2 in the district with one game remaining (as of this writing) vs. Osbourn. If they beat Osbourn, OP will be the Regular Season Champion which would give them the home field advantage (and a 1st round bye) throughout the District Tournament and the guaranteed 1st round home game in the Region 6B Tournament. If they defeat Osbourn, their next home game will be on Wednesday 5/17 at 6PM. If they lose to Osbourn, they may have to have a "playback game" to determine the regulars season champion with Freedom S/R.
Track:
We've had a record number of athletes competing in our track program this year. We've had some great performances. The Cedar Run District Championship will be held on 5/16 and 5/18 at Gainesville HS. We are looking forward to see many more great performances.
All of our athletes have competed hard this season and dedicated so many hours to make themselves and their teams better today than they were yesterday. We couldn't be more proud of all of their accomplishments this season!
