Martin Mustangs Monday Message

April 1st - April 14th

Thank You!

Thank you to all the families that supported our fundraiser at our Martin Family Spirit Night at Canes! Thanks to your efforts, we were able to raise $300 for our students!

Must be washed regularly and tied back, braided, or in a bun. Having short hair, hair tied up in a bun, ponytail, or braid, reduces the opportunity for lice to spread, and provides better visibility for students during classroom instruction and gym/track activities. Please help us keep students in school and help to keep the lice out!

For more information on how to treat lice, please follow the link below.

Late Arrivals

This is another friendly reminder that school begins promptly at 7:55 a.m. It is imperative that students make it to school before 7:55 a.m. (we prefer 7:45) to ensure they have a smooth start to the day and do not miss out on valuable instructional time. In the event that you are running late, please remember that you must come into the office and sign your child(ren) in, as our staff are no longer on arrival duty after 7:55 a.m. Please don’t forget that breakfast is served between 7:15 a.m. and 7:50 a.m.

Living Museum - April 4th

GAP Boys/Club and Martin Student Council will be hosting a Living Museum for Pre-K to 2nd graders in the cafeteria on April 4th. Students will spend 30 minutes talking to upper grade level students and teachers about various careers in order to begin exposing them to the many different occupations available when they get older. Please ask your child what they learned and/or what they want to be when they grow up.

College and Career Day - April 5th

3rd and 4th grade students will take part in our College and Career Day on April 5th. Various volunteers and professionals will visit the classrooms to talk to students about their career/college experience. Some of our guest speakers include a nurse, police officer, veterinarian, engineer, and much more! Please talk to your 3rd and 4th graders about their visitor and what they would like to be when they graduate from high school and/or college. Keep working with them to help them be focused in school to get to their dream career.

Book Character Parade - April 5th

Students and teachers will hold our Book Character parade to celebrate young readers. Students are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite book character to join in the fun! Please make sure all costumes are school appropriate and non-restrictive for movement and restrooms. Masks and weapons of any kind are not allowed. Students in costumes will participate in and around the school at 2:15PM. Any student not in costume will be allowed to observe the parade.

4th Grade STAAR Writing Test and Make Up - April 9th and 10th

4th graders will be taking their Writing STAAR test these two days. We ask for NO VISITORS during these two days in order to allow students to focus on their test and to ensure a quiet testing zone for our campus.

If your child is taking the STAAR test, please remember the following tips to do the night before:

  • Go to sleep early to be well rested and ready
  • Eat a good/healthy breakfast the morning of the test (avoid heavy/greasy food)
  • If your child will not eat breakfast at home, bring them to school early enough to eat breakfast in the cafeteria
  • Be at school on time as the stress of running late can make focusing on the test difficult
  • Encourage your child to work hard, read carefully, and do their best.
  • Be positive and tell your child how much you believe in them as a little positive encouragement can go a long way in building their confidence
