Important Information for You!
Christmas Vacation was Down to One Week and Counting
We can do this! Even with all the events that interrupted normal daily schedules last week our students had a great week because of all you did to stick to your daily schedule when events weren't going on. Our students will be successful this final week as well. The key for all of us finishing 2019 strong is our ability to be mindful. We need to be mindful of what we try to pack into our days. We need to be mindful that our students' need to keep a steady routine, even if the activities are a bit different. Yes, bring holiday cheer, but at a level that doesn't cause our students to lose their minds! Consider planning holiday fun for the end of the day, not all day long. We do not want to unintentionally get kids over excited and then become frustrated when they can not sustain their behavior all day.
Also, be on the look out for those kiddos that may need a little extra love. As we have discussed before, not all of our students are looking forward to two weeks off. No school means loss of meals, schedule, a positive adult role model, and a morning hug. While our kiddos are too little to verbally express this, the behavior they exhibit may. Give them a little grace and a lot of extra love!
Winter Break Cleaning & Energy Shut Down
Just a reminder that while the building will be open over Winter Break, this is also the time for Jim and Justina to complete a deep clean and complete a few big projects and a few small ones. One big project that will be completed is the stripping and waxing of the gym and the waxing of the halls. It would probably be a good idea to call Jim prior to coming in to ensure that you can get to your classroom. Also, don't forget that since the building will be in 'shut down' the heat will be turned way back...so dress warmly or just stay home and relax!
Also, please don't forget to complete an energy shut down and pick-up in your classroom before you leave Friday. This includes:
- Unplugging all vampire cords (lamps, CD players, coffee machines, etc.). Computers should be left plugged in.
- Ensure that shades are pulled close.
- Take a minute to straighten up your classroom and make sure all tables are cleaned off...we can't except a deep clean if there is stuff all over.
- PLEASE make sure students take all boots, shoes, and personal items home.
- Ensure that all food is taken home from the lounge fridge, this will be cleaned out at 4:00 pm. on Friday and anything left, including containers will be thrown away.
Thanks for all your help with these items!
Early Release PD Follow-up
I have loved seeing all the continued greetings in the morning. Loved hearing the music playing in the classrooms and as kids enter the building, and seeing in the classrooms I've visited the starting of the days with a positive! I am thinking about adding a 'Positive Point' to the morning announcements beginning in January...what do you think?
Staff Update
You may have noticed a new face last Friday. I would like to welcome back Peggy Lapeen as one of our lunch monitors. Peggy is a Davison bus driver and was previously a lunch monitor for us and I am so excited to have her back. Peggy will be working with rooms 16 and 14. Please take a moment to welcome Peggy back to the Thomson team.
Also, we are quickly approaching the retirement date for Cheryl Nitschke. I will be posting her position when we return in January to allow time for a new person in that position to work with Cheryl in the classroom. We will also be celebrating all of Cheryl's contributions to our Thomson building and team with a retirement party in January. Please watch for additional information on the party from our Social Committee.

Wishing You and Yours a Very Merry Christmas and Wonderful New Year!
May the holidays bring you time to rest, relax, recharge, and have fun with family and friends. I will be hosting Christmas for both my family and Matthew's this year which I enjoy tremendously, but is a lot of work and I am grateful for a couple extra days to prepare. I also look forward to spending some quality time with my best friend Stephanie. If you remember me sharing, Stephanie was diagnosed with breast Cancer in the late spring. She had surgery earlier this month and has gotten very positive news from her pathology reports, so there is much to celebrate. Additionally, I will spend time reflecting on 2019 in preparation for an exciting 2020!
Wishing you all the very best the holidays have to offer!
Most Sincerely,
Natalie
