Monday Matters
Thelma Jones Elementary Week of November 11-15, 2019
A Message from Principal Rhines
Greetings TJE Families,
Welcome to the start of the 3rd six weeks. Our staff and students are working harder than ever in the classrooms. We have had some wonderful events at our school, and it’s been a pleasure seeing so many of you in attendance. We will always strive to have a great partnership between staff and parents, and include you in what’s happening at school. Please know that your child’s teacher is always willing to work with you. I’m always here as well.
As we get closer to the holiday season, our lives will become very busy. Please remember to take a few minutes to stay in touch. Our Monday Matters newsletter is packed with important and helpful information. Also, don’t forget to look at your child’s Take Home Tuesday folder.
As I close out this message, I want to offer one more way to keep you involved. I’d like to have a couple of Parent University Events. Please feel out the survey by clicking on the link. I look forward to hearing from you.
Warmest regards,
Mrs. Mico RhinesTuesday, November 12, 2019

Friendly Reminder about Students Early Pickup
The school day ends at 3:30 P.M. Any student that is picked up before 3:30 P.M. will be issued an Early Release Code (This code is the same thing as a tardy. Unless, a doctor's note is provided. All doctor's notes need to be handed to the Front Office or email to hildakhazem@misdmail.org.
Nurse's Notice
State law requires that all public schools hold annual health screenings for students. We will be screening students throughout the fall semester on all campuses. Students will be screened for Hearing, Vision, and Acanthosis Nigricans (a visual marker that may indicate possible signs of type 2 diabetes) in grade levels PK, KG, 1, 3, 5, 7 and all New to District students. Please ensure that your child is wearing his/her eyeglasses/contacts to school daily.
If further evaluation by your doctor is needed, parents will be notified in writing. Please note that these screenings do not replace your child's need for regular health care and check-ups. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you for cooperation,
Leighann Spence, RN

Become a school volunteer for 2019-2020
Because the safety of our students and staff is our top priority, those wanting to become MISD volunteers must go through the following security measures before serving in the district:
- Volunteers must provide a driver’s license or another form of identification containing the person’s photograph issued by an entity of the U.S. government to verify identity.
- Volunteers must pass a criminal background check. The online form is available here.Opens a New Window.
MISD uses a reputable third-party company to obtain criminal background checks. The form asks for a social security number to conduct the background check. Please note that credit scores and credit reports are not obtained during the background check process. The information given will only be used to determine criminal history. (View the rights under FCRAOpens a New Window..) MISD cannot require parties who are not employed with the district to provide social security information. If an applicant opts out, the background check process may take longer in order to cross-check information. - Volunteers must complete a background check each year. Once you complete the background check for one school in the district it is valid for all schools in the district.
