Tutoring

TMS will be offering our after school tutoring program for middle school students. This program offers help to struggling students on a 1:1 basis from 3:15 – 4:15 p.m. Occasionally, tutoring can be arranged later in the evening at the public library for those students who cannot attend immediately after school. The cost is $11 per hour, and all money goes directly to the tutors.

Our tutors are high school students who are very strong academically. They are able to help the middle school students with homework, assist with a specific subject, or work on organization and study skills. Many students have benefitted from the help of a tutor, however, it is important to remember that tutoring is only one tool to help students who are struggling.

If you are interested in learning more about this program, please contact Mrs. Schultz at 675-7521 ext. 235.

Extreme Mentoring

A program for 6th grade boys and girls to share a meal with respectable high school mentors. These monthly meetings have a prepared message about positive life choices. The high school mentors go through a screening and training process. The goal is to build strong relationships with older role models. These events are the first Thursday of the month. Our first session is September 5th!

What apps are on your student's phone?

I am always impressed by how quickly our students are able to pick up new technology! As adults, it can be nerve raking staying up-to-date on all of the newest apps our young people are using. Here is a short article about the most common apps students are using and their descriptions.

Vaping

We know vaping is an issue in schools across the nation. It is even here at TMS. This is something that we as parents and educators want to believe is not happening to OUR kids, but it might be. We are partnering with THS in an educational campaign on the effects of vaping. Below are some helpful links on vaping and helping our students.

Dress Code

To clarify the Corporation Dress Code policy, I would like to explain the implementation at the middle school.

Tops:

Students must wear sleeves. If a shirt has a sleeve, it is good. Shirts must cover the torso.

Bottoms:

Items of clothing that cover the lower half of the body must cover all skin from waist to mid-thigh. This includes shorts, skirts, and pants with holes. Students are allowed to layer clothing to ensure the skin is properly covered.

My Closet is an amazing resource organized by our very own Mrs. Schultz! For more information, please see this letter.

Raptor Visitor Management System (Repeat)

In case you missed it from our August Newsletter:

The safety of our students is one of our top priorities. Raptor Visitor Management System is our new way of monitoring who is coming in and out of the school. When you enter any of our school buildings, you will be asked for a government issued ID. Every visitor will be scanned and checked against national databases and our internal checks. Before admittance into the building each visitor will be given a time sensitive sticker. We ask that you wear this sticker throughout your stay with us. I am aware that this is an additional step before entering the school. I appreciate your assistance in keeping all students safe!

EventLink (Repeat)

In case you missed it from our August Newsletter:

Eventlink is our new calendar system. These are calendars that we will use to communicate with the community about what is happening in our school. The athletic office has been utilizing this system for some time. The corporation felt that it was necessary for all calendars to be in one place. Please sign up for an account and add the calendars you would like to follow. If you need any assistance with this stop by the office! Please see this link for steps to sign up and add calendars.
