Belvedere Robotics Team Moves On To State Championship
This is the third year Belvedere Middle School’s Robotics team has advanced to the State Championship. Ms. Urvi Bhatia aspires to take BMS Robotics to the VEX World Robotics competition this season. BMS students have built the program to excellence over the past four years. The students love to compete and demonstrate the S.T.E.A.M. skills they are learning in class on the VEX competition field.
This year LDE VEX League recognized Belvedere’s efforts and awarded them the VEX IQ Judges Award, for excelling in interview skills and engineering design journal, and the VEX IQ Robot Skills Championship Award, for scoring the highest points in the skills challenge. Rarely does a school receive 2 awards in the finals competition. Belvedere boasts 8 LDE VEX League awards over its short program history. While Amy Lopez and Ashley Huerta are the lead drivers in the advancing robotics team, they are supported by a crew of student designers, engineers and programmers. Our second team consisting of Sebastian Rahman, Alex Gallegos, and Carlos Perez, who performed exceptionally well this season. It was the robotics programming that propelled the all girls team to score the highest skills score in the LDE VEX League. It truly has been a team effort that enabled the BMS Robotics team to advance to the VEX State Championship.
Belvedere Robotics program is open to all students in local District East and they hope to establish a world class robotics program from elementary to middle and on to high school. Belvedere Robotics will pursue its drive to the VEX World Competition on March 5, 2023 at MACES High School. BMS Robotics team intends to demonstrate that all LAUSD students can accomplish great feats in S.T.E.A.M., now and into the future. Go Belvedere Robotics!
Save the Music Program at Griffith STEAM Magnet Middle School
Save the Music also partnered with Sony Latin to host an inaugural event on March 31, 2022 at Griffith and invited Grammy nominee mariachi artist Lupita Infante to share her wisdom and preform for the young Mariachi "Los Chatos"!
Under the direction of music teacher Mr. Andres Villanueva and Mr. Julian Polanco the mariachi program has grown from 10 to 50 students after just one year of its establishment. Mr. Villanueva believes that "mariachi music has the power to connect his students to the East LA community and knows of the importance of keeping this long tradition alive.”
