HUSKY HIGHLIGHTS
Parent News February 22, 2021
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
- Please do not drop your child(ren) off at school before 7:40 a.m. The child(ren) are not supervised while outside. We have noticed students arriving before 7:40 a.m. and we want our Huskies to be safe. You are welcomed to pull into the drop-off lanes; however please do not let your child(ren) out of your cars until 7:40 a.m.
- Please have your pick up cards at dismissal time. Of course we know most of our families, but it is always best to be safe...plus it helps with traffic flow and makes it easier when we have substitutes! Call the office or email your homeroom teacher if you need additional cards - we will gladly make new ones.
- If weather is extreme in the morning - the Lola Loop (morning drop-off) staff will be waiting at the gates for your child(ren). Please know this is only when weather is extreme. We will take turns at the gate and help your child(ren) make it into the building safely. We will also be there to monitor the area - but may not be able to open car doors and direct all traffic. Thank you for showing extra patience on these rare occasions.

FEMA is giving away $800 in food vouchers and assisting with home repairs. Call 800-621-3362 or go to https://www.disasterassistance.gov/ to apply. The application process is very quick – likely about ten minutes.
You'll need the following to complete your registration:
- Social Security Number (SSN) OR the SSN of a minor child in the household who is a U.S. Citizen, Non-Citizen National, or Qualified Alien
- Annual Household Income
- Contact Information (phone number, mailing address, email address, and damaged home address)
- Insurance Information (coverage, insurance company name, etc.)
- Bank Account Information (if you are eligible to receive financial assistance, the money can be deposited in your account)
Please communicate to your contacts to be vigilant! Scammers and thieves are actively posing as FEMA and other assistance programs to steal your information and identity. Please share the following tips for screening whether the emergency assistance is creditable or not:
- Check to make sure the FEMA website you are accessing ends with .gov
- FEMA will NOT text you!
- Don’t trust anyone who offers financial help and then asks for money or personal information. Federal and local disaster workers do not solicit or accept money.
- Resist the pressure to act immediately. Scammers pressure you to provide information immediately; they want you to act before you have time to think.
- Know how scammers will ask you to pay. They often insist that you pay by sending money through a money transfer company or putting money on a gift card and then giving them the number on the back.
- Stop and talk to someone you trust. Before you do anything else, tell someone - a friend, a family member, a neighbor - what happened. Talking about it could help you realize it’s a scam.

BISD NOW FOLLOWING NEW CDC QUARANTINE GUIDELINES
On Dec. 2, the CDC amended their guidelines to allow for two additional options for the quarantine period, and on Thursday, Dec. 4, the Texas Education Agency announced their alignment with the new CDC guidelines.
Quarantine is for individuals who have been in close contact to someone who tested positive for COVID-19. The CDC previously only advised a 14-day stay-at-home (quarantine) period. For individuals experiencing no symptoms, the additional options are:
- 10 days after the last close contact (No test required); or
- 7 days after the last close contact and after receiving a negative test result, administered no earlier than 5 days since the last close contact. (Proof of a negative test must be provided to the school/work.)
If individuals return to school/work from either of these two stay-at-home periods, they should regularly monitor themselves for symptoms to ensure they remain symptom-free and take appropriate precautions for the duration of the 14-days.
Campuses will notify families of their child’s return date options. Employees will also be notified of their return date options.
