Bulldog Bulletin
Elementary School- November, 2023
Hello HCS Families!
Dear HCS Families,
Wow, what a wonderful time of year! The leaves are beautiful and the air is crisp- I love the smell of fall! We have been incredibly busy these last few weeks. Earlier in October we completed assessing all of our students for fall growth measures in reading and math and have collected information to help guide instruction. Coaches, intervention providers and classroom teachers have had the opportunity to meet as grade level teams to review the data for each and every student. Fall assessments also help to determine individual and small group needs for instructional differentiation, intervention, and enrichment.
We have also been focusing on our Bulldog 4:
- Be Respectful
- Be Responsible
- Be Kind
- Be Safe
and our monthly character traits:
- October: Cooperation
- November: Gratitude
Sincerely,
Natalie Pfluke

How was your day?
If your child is anything like my son, it sometimes feels impossible to get anything out of him about school. (My daughter on the other hand will talk for hours!) When I ask him what he did at school, he often replies, "nothing", which I know is not true! I wanted to share some excerpts from the book, Stop Asking "How Was Your Day?" by Daniel Crawford- it's filled with questions to get our kids to start sharing. Hope it works for you as it did for me...
This month's suggestions:
- Who did you sit with at lunch today?
- What is one thing your teacher loves to do?
- What is your favorite thing about where we live?
- What was the best thing you did today and why?
- What was something you learned today that you think I might not know?
Thank you Richmond Fire Department for your demonstrations on fire safety and prevention!
Book Fair- coming in December!
The best way to have some #bookjoy cheer is to shop the Scholastic Book Fair HERE!
It's coming to town DECEMBER 11th - 15th* and will be located in the Room 101 (classroom on the right as you head towards the Nurse's Office from the Elementary Office, same room it has been in the last few years). Details will be coming closer to the dates from our 5th Grade Elementary Library Club on specific times and events happening around the Book Fair! Special thank you ahead to those who will be volunteering their time to help with the Book Fair. If you are new to the district and want to sign up to volunteer, make sure to select Library Volunteer on your Volunteer Form to be included in the volunteer email loop! Any questions about this - email jdeal@honeoye.org.
We look forward to seeing you there!
~Ms. Deal & the 5th Grade Library Club
*Note the change from the usual November dates. It will take place in December from now on to match our new Parent Teacher Conferences schedule.

Dignity for All Students
At HCS, incidents of discrimination/harassment are taken very seriously. Please be sure to notify me or your child's teacher immediately of any situation related to discrimination and/or harassment so that we can ensure that we are aware of the concern and are able to address it, without delay.
The Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) (§§10-18 of Education Law) defines harassment as the creation of a hostile environment by conduct or by verbal threats, intimidation or abuse that has or would have the effect of unreasonably and substantially interfering with a student’s educational performance, opportunities or benefits, or mental, emotional or physical well-being; or conduct, verbal threats, intimidation or abuse that reasonably causes or would reasonably be expected to cause a student to fear for his or her physical safety. The harassing behavior may be based on any characteristic, including but not limited to a person’s actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sex, sexual orientation, or gender (including gender identity and expression).
We have trained DASA coordinators at our schools who are available and able to support you and your family. If you need more information, please reach out to the elementary office at any time.
Thank you,
Natalie Pfluke

Attendance
Going to school regularly matters for your child’s success and achievement!
Every year, school absences spike in the weeks before and after winter break, as families squeeze a few more days of vacation out of the holiday season. As long as your child is healthy, please encourage showing up to class when school is in session. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as connect to peers and their teachers.
If your family or your child need support, please reach out to the Main Office (585) 229-5171 Ext. 3018 or the Counseling Department at (585) 229-5171 Ext. 3020.
