Grade Three Newsletter
Family/Community Connections
Greetings & Salutations
Thank you for reading our first grade 3 newsletter. The third grade teachers will be working together to keep our families apprised of the current, fun, challenging, exciting and rigorous learning occurring in our classes throughout the year. This will be a great way to stay informed and share happenings with family and friends quickly and easily. Each issue will feature curriculum connections, upcoming themes and units of study, periodic schedule changes, assessment updates and more.
STEM Challenge
Students from 3K and 3P teamed up to complete a STEM Challenge...building the tallest tower they could out of spaghetti and marshmallows!
Mystery Board Games
Students were given the opportunity to create an "extra credit" board game based on a mystery book they read. They could then teach their classmates to play the game.
Dress-Up Day
As a part of the all-school celebration, students were allowed to dress up at the end of October. Third graders were thrilled to share their costumes with their friends.
PBIS
Mrs. Morris's Class Playing Giants, Wizards and Elves as part of our 10 minute reward for filling our fishbowl.
PBIS, Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports, is going great. This is a school wide behavior plan that H.E.S. has adopted, and is utilizing in all areas of our school. Students work to earn "water drops" or "air bubbles" to fill fish bowls in the classrooms. Students can earn water drops for showing that they are Respectful, Safe, Responsible, and Ready to Learn. Every third grade class has filled their buckets 10 times, which means we have shown a great deal of Responsible, Safe, Respectful and Ready to Learn behaviors. We are looking forward to our second school wide celebration very soon!
Audubon Lessons
The students from Mrs. Benoit's class were the first to participate in the Audubon sea turtle lessons, and the rest of the students will have this lesson over the next week. What the students learn will then be put to use during our mid-December field trip to the beach, where we hope to find, and learn more about, stranded sea turtles.
Audubon Lessons
Third grade classes will all attend Audubon lessons on the Life Cycles of Sea Turtles in the next week.
Hands-On
The students, like these from Mrs. Benoit's class, will have a chance to touch actual sea turtle skeletons!
Field Trip
These lessons will provide students with valuable information they need to be prepared for our field trips to the beach (to look for stranded sea turtles) in a couple of weeks.
Winter Report Cards
We have three terms at Harwich Elementary School. The first report card will be distributed on December 16, 2106. It is a standards based report card with students earning numbers based on their performance levels. As discussed at the parent-teacher conferences, students are learning many new concepts which will be reflected in the report cards. Please take the time to review the report card with your child and set goals for term 2.
