This Is How We Lakeview
December Edition - Volume 2
1 week of 2020 left (as far as school goes)
We have 1 week left of 2020 and the students are hard at work. This marks week 2 of the iReady/ALEKS Incentive cart making its rounds to E/I groups. Last week Mr. McGruder's (Team Avengers) E/I group was the classroom winner with the highest average number of lessons passed. This week, Mrs. Good's E/I took the lead. We also awarded the top 3 students on each team. Mr. Baptist, Mr. Smith and I had a great time bringing around the cart and rewarding the students! Please encourage your student to keep passing their iReady lessons as this is their personal learning path and helps them to review and learn skills that they may have struggled with along the way.
During the winter break, the Lakeview Main Office will be open from 8:00 am-2:00 pm. We will be closed Thursday, Dec 24th, Friday, Dec 25th and Friday, Jan 1st.
Winter Break is Dec 21-Jan 4th. School starts back up on January 5th. We will still be in cohorts, so Cohort A will be in-person and Cohort B will have virtual work starting on this day.
PAW time update
Hello Panther Families. Our students are doing some amazing things in PAW Time, learning about building an inclusive culture and regulating our emotions, and we want to include you in the conversation. We recently shared strategies from Teaching Tolerance with our students on how to stand up for others. Teaching Tolerance offered this foldable pocket guide that offers simple ways to stand against bias and promote unity. (Video Instructions for the foldable.) Teachers can then engage with students in discussion around these strategies.
We know that any Holidays and the New Year will be unique. It is time to put our new E+R=O Mindsets into practice. We are reviewing the following video from Brian Kight on how to avoid BCD and be our best while celebrating our time together during winter break.
Think about your family as “your team.”
Think about your 20 sq feet and what you can control.
Think about Discipline vs Default.
Think about pressing pause before you engage in a response that will impact someone you love and who loves you.
Spirit Week Dec 14-18
The student council has come up with a spirit week for next week:
Monday: Twin day
Tuesday : Holiday attire (santa hats, ugly sweaters, elf hats, etc.)
Cohort B :
Thursday: Twin day
Friday: holiday attire (santa hats, ugly sweaters, elf hats, etc.)
I have had several students ask me about pajamas/onesies, these are allowed for Spirit Week.

P.R.I.D.E Special Edition Holiday Newsletter
The P.R.I.D.E committee would like to present our first Special Edition Holiday Newsletter to end the 2020 off right. We would not have been able to make this happen without the help of our amazing committee, teachers, and parents in our community. Thank you to everyone who reached out to us with your wonderful ideas!
The PRIDE committee will continue to provide a newsletter every quarter and its contents will align with events and activities that are going on in our community and our world. For the Holiday Edition, we did not include a PLSD spotlight but will make sure to include a Staff and Student spotlight when school resumes in January. Once again, please continue to reach out to our PRIDE committee to provide suggestions or topics you would like to have featured in the newsletter.
We hope you enjoy this edition and have a wonderful holiday season!

Change Chat Round-Up
Our kids are awesome. A total of 85 students attended the Change Chat on friendship this week. We encouraged them to reflect on their experiences in school and in life and times they may have heard comments or seen actions that affected their friends much differently than them. Students shared several ideas as to why it is hard to stand up against injustice and brainstormed ways they can interrupt, question, and educate when they witness incidents of prejudice and/or bias.
We will continue with Change Chats next month as we work toward our goal that every single student feels welcomed and valued at Lakeview.
Updates from the Family Feedback Form
- One question we received from the previous newsletter dealt with the possibility of taking virtual attendance through Google Classroom. We think this is a fantastic idea; however, Infinite Campus doesn’t play well with others. It’s currently not possible to integrate the attendance platform through Infinite Campus with Google Classroom.
