Covid Notification FAQs

Who receives a Covid Notification Letter?

This year, CFISD has advised all principals to send a notification letter to the grade level if a student tests positive for Covid-19 instead of the entire school like we did last school year. The only time a letter may go out to the entire school is if a staff member is positive who works with more than one grade level (an a-team member, dyslexia, large group, etc.).

If my student is sick, can they switch to virtual learning?

Last year, if a student was out sick, they could switch to virtual instruction and continue attending class online. This is not an option for students receiving in-person instruction at this time. If a student will be out for an extended period of time (more than 3 days) parents may arrange to pick up student work with their child's teachers as was our practice prior to the onset of the pandemic. With the addition of Schoology, teachers are now able to send work directly to students through Schoology and make class notes/resources available to students online. This is also an option your child's teachers may utilize for some assignments.

Important Note:

The district is constantly re-evaluating their guidelines and protocols to ensure they are meeting state and CDC guidelines to the extent they are able. This means these protocols may change in the future. Rennell will always follow the most current Lead Safely guidelines. Please be assured that many of the staff here are parents as well so please feel confident in the knowledge that we all have a vested interest in keeping all of our Rennell children as safe as possible.

Hiker/Biker Reminders

This is a reminder that our Hiker/Biker arrival and dismissal option is ONLY for students who live in the section of Towne Lake behind the school playground and within walking or biking distance for their child's ability.

As stated in our back-to-school information slide show that was sent out by our teachers when they revealed themselves as your child's teacher:

"If you choose Hiker/Biker for your child, we will release students to go home from the hardtop. Students will walk to the gate at the back of the playground and then home. This exit is for students who are walking or riding their bikes home only. This is not for cars to park and meet their child to drive home. All children going home by car should be CAR RIDERS for the safety of all students."

It is VERY unsafe for us to have numerous cars picking up students without a system in place. We could be cited by Harris County as unsafe and have to remove this dismissal option if it continues as we do not have enough staff available at this time to maintain two separate car rider lines. We don't want to remove the hiker/biker option as MANY of our families live directly behind the school within safe walking/biking distance for their children. Please adhere to the guidelines we laid out for arrival and dismissal for the safety of all of our Redhawks. If your child arrives or departs by car, contact your child's teacher to change their permanent transportation to car rider. Thank you so much for your help.
