Keeping Schools & Communities Safe
Sept. 10 Workshop Focuses on School Safety
The interest and demand for school safety, security, climate, culture, and emergency preparedness has increased dramatically.
Prairie Lakes AEA is partnering with Safe Havens International to offer a free workshop designed to offer educators, law enforcement personnel, health care professionals, community members, students, and families insights and approaches that have been used to successfully avert hundreds of planned and imminent school shootings.
The workshop will also cover the roots and causes of school violence, as well as what the past cases have taught us. Stereotypes and myths will also be highlighted, along with warning signs and what steps to take if you need to take action.
While schools consider an array of approaches, it is imperative that student threat assessment and management, suicide prevention and other proven behavioral prevention measures be more widely utilized by both school and community members. While there are no simple answers nor 100 percent effective approaches to prevent school shootings, there are approaches that have been used to successfully avert hundreds of planned and imminent school shootings.
