Our School Vision
Knight Vision: To share in the commitment of rigorous and high quality instruction to meet the needs of every child.
Our 2017-2018 school theme “Believe...Growth Mindset for Student Success!” is directly aligned with our continued vision and instructional expectations for Knight: to share in the commitment of rigorous and high quality instruction to meet the needs of every child.
Instructional Expectations:
*Workshop Model (Reader’s & Writer’s & Math)/Gradual Release
*Hands on, integrated Science, Social Studies, Technology, and Fine Arts
*High levels of Student Engagement and Inquiry
*Co-Teaching (EL and Special Ed)
Knight Mission: To provide a positive, stimulating, and secure environment that empowers the individual to grow socially, emotionally and intellectually in order to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.
Knight Belief: We believe all kids can learn…
…and we will establish high standards of learning that we expect all students to achieve. It is our job to create an environment in our classrooms that engages students in academic work that results in a high level of achievement. We are confident that with our support and help, students can master challenging curricula, and we expect them to do so. We are prepared to work collaboratively with colleagues, students and parents to achieve this shared educational purpose (DuFour, 1997a).

PTA and Sunshine Dues
Be sure to join the Knight PTA! They are a great support system to KES students, families, and staff throughout the year. Be sure to attach your payment to the form that was placed in your mailbox. Submit your PTA dues to Laurie Boltin, our Student Management Data Clerk.
Join Sunshine as well! We are all in this together! Thank you to the first and fourth grade teams for 100% participation! Sunshine allows us to show our sympathy, concern, appreciation, and interest in our colleagues without asking for repeated donations throughout the year. Please submit Sunshine dues to Michele Brown, our counselor.

PBIS Thoughts
Are you noticing that your students are feeling angry, anxious, or frustrated? Sometimes kids have a hard time dealing with their feelings and need a way to cool down. Consider taking a few moments to do a mini-lesson with select students (or even your whole class, if appropriate) to teach some calming strategies. Designate a special spot in your classroom as the Cool Down Spot - where students are safe to take a few minutes to collect themselves rather than do something that might hurt them or someone else. This is a great step to take before writing a referral. It is considered one of the intervention strategies that fits in the behavior flowchart.
Want something to hang in your Cool Down Spot to help students remember what to do? Click here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_cUGPwfvFRHWHV6Wmd3b1Z3Q00
*You may want to have a sand timer or other timer in your Cool Down Spot to help students monitor the time they need to spend there.
