Technology Rules For Parents
By:Jasleen Brar
Rule#1
Don't text and drive because it can cause accidents, injuries, and also death. Texting and driving has a 23 percent more chance of you having a car crash. Also, texting and driving has become the number one distraction for parents. Parents should keep their attention on the road and not on their mobile devices.
Rule#2
Always have a limit on your mobile devices because you should always spend some time with your family and friends. Also, staying on your device for a long time can cause some health problems too and one of the most known health problem is it takes to much of your vision to look at the device. Also, now days are even more devices and that means more glasses will be sold if you don't have a limit on devices.
Rule#3
Always stay aware of unwanted links. Sometimes you search for information you need and the next thing you know is that a random link pops up and when you try to delete it, more pop up.These are some unwanted links that you don't want.Whenever some kind of link pops up that you don't want you must immediately close it. Unwanted links can also cause you some problems, such as if you accidently press on a link that you don't want, some thing else pops up and you press send, and then you get in big trouble. What if that link sent some of your messages that you did not want to send? This can also make you lose some of your close friends.
Rule#4
Never give out your passwords. Even though you trust someone really well and can tell them anything and they will keep it as a promise. Never give out your password, no matter what happens. Giving your password is the greatest risk because if you do give it to someone, they could change your profile and give out some unwanted messages to your friends and relatives.
Rule #5
Never give out your credit card number to any website. Giving your credit card number to a website that you don't trust, can cause you many problems. Hackers on the other side that are purposely trying to make you give your credit card so they could get money for themselves. My advice to people around the media world,NEVER share your credit card.
Rule#6
Be careful of what information you put on media. Hackers could also know where you live, what's your favourite place etc., and if they find a little to much about you they could aim at you, and that means you are in a danger zone. Also, a very good advice to parents using technology is NEVER give out your personal information.
Rule#7
Always cover your webcam because even though your device is off, someone can hack into it and see whatever you are doing. You can see a light blinking if your webcam is on. However, hackers are very cleaver and can make the light stop blinking so you wouldn't notice. My advice to keep yourself safe would be to cover your webcam with a sticker or something that someone can't look through.
Rule#8
Always keep your device charged because in case of an emergency you need to text or call someone, you can do it right away. Having your device charged has a good explanation of having safety too. For example if you are in a car accident and your devices battery is low, you can't call for help. So its always a good idea to have your device charged.
Rule#9
Never put the location of where you live because you never know who is behind the screen checking you profile. For example- if you send a message on Facebook and tell where you are going. Someone can track you down and find out where you are going you can get into big trouble.
Rule#10
Always keep your profile private because you never know who is looking through it. Keeping your profile has an advantage of being safe. For example- if you post a picture only to your friends and accidently you send it to a random person, you could be targeted. You never know whos behind the screen.
