Second grade is collecting school supplies and books for students in Lumberton, NC that lost so much due to flooding from Hurricane Matthew.

Please send school supplies and children's books to support students in Lumberton that were affected by flooding. We are collecting school supplies until November 10th.

Storybook Character Projects are due on Monday!

Your child is participating in a storybook character project. The project is due on Monday, October 31st. Your child needs to choose a good-fit book and then complete the character card and a project form the choice board. It can be a book from home or a book from school, as long as it is a good-fit choice.

What We are Learning About

Reading: We are focusing on text features of nonfiction texts. We will also learn about using the RAPS (restate, answer, prove it, sum it up) strategy.


Writing: Students will participate in shared research and writing while using the writing process: brainstorming, drafting, editing, revising, conferring, and publishing.


Fundations: We are currently focusing on spelling and marking closed syllable words with glued sounds and suffixes. We are also reading words with r-controlled vowels and vowel teams.


Math: We will focus on drawing shapes with specific attributes, such as a given number of faces or sides.


Science: We will focus on the states of matter.


Social Studies: We will focus on the purpose of government and the rolls and responsibilities of citizens.
