Message from Dr. Epperson

Hello from CMS! We have enjoyed a really great week celebrating our favorite colleges. It has been so fun watching the students support their teams. Our theatre students are ready for their performance this evening. If you haven't purchased tickets, see the flyer below for details.

It is hard to believe, but quarter 1 ends October 16th. I sent an email to parents of all virtual learners asking for notification if students want to return to face to face instruction for quarter 2. If you haven't already done so, please email me if your child plans to return. If your child will remain in the virtual setting, no notification is needed.

I know the students are ready for a 3 day weekend! Our teachers will be working hard Monday to complete some long range planning for quarter 2.

Thank you for your support!

Theatre Department Announcement

Check out what the CMS Theatre students have been up to! The Comedy Arena is bringing their flagship show, ComedySportz, from the field to the screen where you can watch and participate from the comfort of your own home (or wherever you are getting internet reception).

Starring the actors of Cockrill Middle School, this show is arguably, the most famous short-form comedy show in the world where performers will play various improv games and scenes, with audience members inspiring their action with their suggestions. In every match, a ComedySportz referee monitors the action and administers fouls as necessary. This International comedy show-down is a high-energy hilarious experience, and appropriate for all audiences – all ages, all welcome, all the time.

The show will be on Friday, October 9th at 7pm. Tickets are “pay what you can.” Go to this link to reserve your ticket:

Snack Shack Opens Tuesday

Students will be able to shop in the "Snack Shack" after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Oct. 13th. Most items are $1. Students have time to grab a snack before tutoring if they want. Thanks to our PTO for getting this started for our students!

If you can give a few minutes to volunteer, sign up here.

Oct. 20th is Pink Out Day at CMS

Wear all the pink as we support efforts to create breast cancer awareness. Cheerleaders will greet students and pass out pink out stickers to students, and our AVID students will pink out the school.

Students Attending After School Events

Any student attending an extracurricular event after school hours as an audience member or team fan, must be accompanied by an adult this year. One adult may bring a group of friends if the adult will stay for the duration of the event and provide a ride home after the event. The parent and student(s) must have a ticket if the event is ticketed.

If a student has been sent home to monitor health symptoms or is quarantining, they should not attend extracurricular events.

Charge those Laptops Daily

If a computer runs completely out of battery at home, it kicks the student off the network and their laptop has to come in for repairs to have everything reset. Avoid the hassle and charge daily.

PTO Volunteer Sign-Up

We would love to see our parent volunteers at school. Please complete the google form to get connected to several opportunities.

Staff Luncheon and PTO Donations

PTO Offering Staff Luncheon Oct. 16. If you would like to donate to PTO to help with events for CMS throughout the year, we would appreciate your support. You may donate electronically at this link. At this time, we do not have large school-wide fundraisers planned. Your donations make the difference!

Free/Reduced Lunch Program

While a student's Free and Reduced status carries over from the previous school year for the first 30 days of school, they must fill out a new application each year to continue in the program. Students learning virtually still need to apply to retain their benefits for the 20-21 school year.

Hard copies can be picked up in the front office, or students can go online and complete the application at

1:The World Laptop Initiative

We want to remind you of the annual “Assurance Fees” that will be collected as part of the 1:The World Laptop initiative. Each student has a fee associated with their HAC account according to their lunch status (30.00 or 15.00 for free/reduced lunch). Parents can pay these fees through HAC using a credit/debit card or they can pay in person at CMS with check/cash/money order. This document includes detailed directions on how to pay the fee in HAC. You may need to turn off your pop-up blocker on your device to pay the fee. This annual fee will cover the first incident of damage to the laptop 100% with all other incidents of damage being covered at 125.00 each. All of this information is detailed in the 1:The World Handbook and includes a sample price list of the cost to replace frequently damaged parts should the fee not be paid.

Fees or an established payment plan should be handled by December 17th. After this date any student with an outstanding Assurance Fee will have their laptop restricted to a whitelist of academic resources only. These students will not have access to anything other than the 59 listed applications necessary to participate in school. This restriction will be in place until the fee is paid.

If you plan to use a personal device rather than the MISD laptop, email for the 1: The World opt-out form to have the fee removed from HAC if you have not already done so.”
