Good Afternoon,
The week of May 2nd is Teacher Appreciation Week. Our theme is a space theme, "Our Teachers Are Out Of This World". We will be having students write notes to their teachers next week at lunch so we can deliver them during Teacher Appreciation Week. Please see the PTSO notes below on how you can show your students' teachers you appreciate them.
As we are entering May we have a lot of news and events coming up. Please keep scrolling to read about updates on testing, band, the play, Movers for Moms and much, much more!

TESTING UPDATE
Testing Update:
- Urgent: Proctors are still needed for all of May testing! Please help us to monitor our testing rooms! Being a proctor is easy and is only for a few hours in the morning. Proctors are required and we appreciate your help! More information about proctoring can be found under the Testing tab of the SPMS site. - District Exam make ups will be April 25th-29th. If your child missed a district exam, please remind them to be prepared to take their missed exam this week. Students will be pulled for testing based on staff availability.
- FSA/EOC are in May! The bell schedule from May 2nd – 20th will change to accommodate for missed instructional time due to testing in the morning. The normal bell schedule will resume on May 23rd. Please see the attached bell schedule to plan accordingly. Also, see the attached testing calendar here: https://www-raider.stjohns.k12.fl.us/spring-testing-calendar/ to determine which day your student is testing. It is imperative that students are present and on time as testing sessions will begin promptly.
- As a reminder, all 7th and 8th grades students will need to bring their WIRED ear buds or headphones for the Reading FSA (wireless ones are not acceptable). Please make sure your child brings their headphones for their Reading FSA (dates listed below):
- -7th grade Reading FSA: May 9-10
- -8th grade Reading FSA: May 12-13

THE PLAY IS THE THING!
We are delighted to announce the staging of our first post-COVID play this month! The 40+ member cast will present the highly humorous and antic -filled Law & Order The Fairy Tale Unit for three performances. Opening night is Friday, April 29th at 7 p.m. Matinee on Saturday, April 30 and closing performance Saturday, April 30 at 7 p.m.
Tickets will be available at the door, but advance payment is recommended.

Band UPDATES
Our Raider Band program has had a very eventful and successful semester, performing for a number of audiences and certified judges. Our Raider Big Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony all earned Superior ratings and our Wind Ensemble earned an Excellent. A few weeks later 53 of our students performed at a Solo & Ensemble festival, earning a total of 63 Superior medals.
On April 27th, both jazz bands traveled to Port Orange to perform in the Lakeside Jazz Festival. Congratulations to both the Raider Big Band and the Silver Big Band who received Superiors. They did an amazing job!
The band has one round of performances left on April 28th at 7pm (Beginning & Symphonic Bands), May 5th at 6pm (Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony) and May 5th at 7:30 (Raider Big Band and Silver Jazz Band). All concerts are free and open to the public. Parents who would like more info about getting their students involved with our band program should email ryan.whalen@stjohns.k12.fl.us.
Movers for Moms Update
WEB would like to send a big THANK YOU to our wonderful SPMS families!
Thanks to your generosity, we were able to donate 8 large boxes of supplies to Movers for Moms for women and families in need!

2022 SPMS Basketball Camps
Switzerland Point Middle School will be hosting its Annual Summer Basketball Camp for boys & girls ages 6 – 14. The camp will have three one – week sessions
June 6 – July 1, 2022. This is a fun filled camp where “Teaching Never Stops”. Do not be left out of this year’s camp because the camp fills up fast. Please check the school's website for the links to sign up in the next week or so. Students may sign-up for more than one session of basketball camp. Questions/concerns, please call or email Coach Singleton (Terrance.singleton@stjohns.k12.fl.us) at 287-2626 or 547-8650.
Also, we are seeking donations or prizes for the students. (Example: gift certificate, T-shirt, coupons, or candy). If any parent(s) or area business can contribute it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

In addition to compliance with all other immunization requirements, children entering, attending, or transferring to the seventh grade in Florida schools must complete the following:

Special Message on the Marquee
SPMS National Junior Honor Society is sponsoring an opportunity to send a special birthday or congratulations message to your student via the marquee in the front of school. Cost is $25. Complete the form here to submit your request (there's a separate link in the form to pay via Schoolpay upon submitting your request). Requests are due the Friday prior to the event and will display the following week (Tuesday through Monday). Example: if you turn in the request on Friday, September 17 then your message will be displayed on Tuesday, September 21.

CLASSROOM GRANTS –
Thanks to your overwhelming support this year PTSO was able to fund all our initiatives including awarding over 42 Teacher grants this year. These grants allow to purchase items that enhance the learning environment of our school.

TEACHER APPRECITAION WEEK – May 2nd to May 6th
May 2nd through May 6th is Teacher Appreciation Week. PTSO will be hosting a luncheon on Wednesday May 4th for our wonderful staff.
Please let our amazing staff know how much you appreciate them during this week. Thank you notes or drawings, small gift cards, salty or sweet snacks and other items are always appreciated. Remind your students the best gift they can give their teachers during this week is to be Respectful, Responsible and Safe.
NOTHING BUNDT CAKES FUNDRAISER – FINAL FUNDRAISER OF THE YEAR
We are very excited to bring back Nothing Bundt cakes for one final time this year with exciting new Spring flavors. In addition to some old favorites there will be Strawberry Crème and Blueberry Bliss. Sales begin May 6th.
This delicious fundraiser will directly benefit emergency buckets that the PTSO will be purchasing for all classroom and common areas of Swiss Point. It is a delicious way to support and important school initiative.
