Baseball Opens Area Play Tuesday Night

Area play will begin for Hewitt-Trussville Baseball Tuesday night as the Huskies host Gadsden City at 6pm. The Huskies enter Area play with a 22-2 overall record. Tickets for Tuesday night's Area opener can be purchased at the link below.

On Friday night, the Huskies defeated Auburn 4-3 in a matchup of the top two 7A teams in the state rankings. Skylar Jones got the win as he pitched 6.1 innings. Jones gave up three runs on six hits and struck out eight batters. Riley Quick got the save as he registered the final two outs of the game.
The Huskies got on the board first in the 2nd inning. Kurt Kizer doubled to put runners at first and second with just one out. Jack Ollis then grounded out to score a run. Auburn would take the lead in the 4th inning as they pushed across two runs. HT would tie the game in the bottom of the 4th. Jackson Holland and Matt Miller led off with singles. After Kurt Kizer walked, Jack Ollis grounded out to score a run.
In the 5th inning, Hudson Boren led off with a single. Trey Burrell reached on an error and Boren advanced to third base. Ethan Duhon put the ball in play to score Boren. Later in the inning, Matt Miller hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Burrell.

Softball Wins Oxford Tournament
Hewitt-Trussville Softball went a perfect 7-0 on the weekend to win the Oxford Spring Sting Tournament. HT scored three runs in the final inning to beat Helena in the championship game. The Huskies are now 31-1-1 on the season. Here is a recap from the weekend:
HT 4 Central Phenix City 1
Sara Phillips pitched a complete game and gave up just one run. Phillips struck out eight batters. Kenleigh Cahalan went 2-3 and drove in a run.
HT 10 Springville 1
Tori Hyde got the win as she pitched a complete game. Hyde struck out five batters. Hannah Dorsett, Kenleigh Cahalan, Madi Mitchell, and Riley Rudick all had two hits.
HT 11 Pleasant Valley 3
Rylee Tyree went 2-3 and drove in three runs. Tyree also scored one. Kenleigh Cahalan went 2-3 and drove in three runs.
HT 10 Cleburne County 1
Tori Hyde gave up just two hits and struck out four. Anyce Harvey was 3-3 with three RBI's and scored twice. Rylee Tyree was 3-3 and drove in a run.
HT 18 Hueytown 0
Jenna Lord was 3-3 and scored three times. Anyce Harvey had two hits and drove in four runs. Sarah Hindman pitched a shutout.
HT 11 Vestavia 5
Hannah Dorsett was 3-3 and scored three times. Jenna Lord was 2-3 and drove in three runs.
HT 6 Helena 5 (Championship Game)
Kenleigh Cahalan ended the game with a double that drove in three runs. Cahalan drove in five runs for the game. Anyce Harvey, Crystal Maze, and Katelyn Murphy all had two hits.

Track and Field Wins Friday Meet
Hewitt-Trussville Outdoor Track and Field traveled to Fayetteville, GA on Friday to compete in the Fleet Feet Friday Night Lights event. The HT Boys finished in 1st place out of 21 teams. The HT Girls finished in 1st place out of 19 teams.
The Huskies will be in action April 9-10 as they travel to the Mountain Brook Invitational.

Amiya Payne Named 7A Player of the Year
Hewitt-Trussville's Amiya Payne was named the Girls Basketball 7A Player of the Year this week. Payne finished the season averaging 21.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists a game. The Middle Tennessee signee had 2,420 career points, 744 rebounds, 217 steals and 203 blocks. Payne and her teammates advanced to the Final Four for the second time in school history.

HTHS Volleyball Tryouts
Tryouts for the 2021 HTHS Volleyball team will take place May 3-May 7 at HTHS. Tryouts will take place from 3:30pm-5:30pm each day.

HTHS Boys Basketball Tryouts
Tryouts for the 2021-2022 HTHS Boys Basketball teams will take place May 24-26. Rising 10th-12th grade students will tryout from 3:45pm-5:15pm daily. Rising 9th graders will tryout from 5:30pm-7:00pm daily.

Middle School Softball Wins MetroSouth Title
Another banner is going up in the HTMS gym! The Husky Middle School Softball team won the MetroSouth Championship over the weekend.
HT 14 Bragg 4
Sydney Moore went 2-3 and scored twice. Moore drove in three runs. Zaylen Tucker went 2-3 and scored twice.
HT 10 Thompson 4
Zaylen Tucker was 2-3 and scored a run. Makaila Hope was 2-2 and drove in a pair of runs.
HT 13 Berry 2
Ryleigh Wood was 2-3 and scored twice. Makaila Hope was 2-2 and drove in four runs.
HT 9 Berry 0 (Championship Game)
Zaylen Tucker threw a complete game shutout and struck out eight batters. Makaila Hope was 3-4 and had a RBI. Peyton Hull and Alleigh Benton had two hits each.
HTMS Tennis Finishes 3rd at Metro
Hewitt-Trussville Middle School Girls Tennis placed 3rd at the season-ending Metro Tournament. The event capped a successful season for the Huskies.
HTMS Boys Golf Has Top Three Finish
HTMS Boys Golf finished in 3rd place at the Husky Classic on Monday.
