los mandatos: how to tell someone what to do or where to go
Commands
Commands (mandatos) are nothing more than directives that you receive (or give!) on a daily basis! WHO gives commands?? Well, think on it...
- bosses (please arrive to work on time!)
- parents (get home by midnight!)
- teachers (please write in full sentences, in Spanish! :)
- friends (call me later!)
- coaches (run one more lap, c'mon get to it!)
What kind of commands are there???
LOTS. LOTS and lots of commands. Check this out.
informal (tú) commands
formal (Ud.) commands
formal plural (Uds.) commands (and vosotros too!)
plural "let's" (nosotros) commands
tú / afirmativo / regular
tú commands are the trickiest because they have 2 separate formats, for affirmative v negative commands (think Simon says! "do this", "don't do that")
With regular verbs the tú affirmative command is nothing more than the él/ella/Ud. conjugation. See here..
escribir > escribe!
halbar > habla!
comer > come!

tú / afirmativo / IRregular
tú irregular commands have a really cool connection to Vin Diesel the Hollywood actor! Check these 8 irregular command formats out..
venir > ven
decir > di
salir > sal
hacer > haz
tener > ten
ir > ve
poner > pon
ser > sé
RUN these verbs together! Do you hear: "Vin Diesel has 10 weapons, eh??" (photo below of our Fast and Furious hero as well as irregular tú commands hero courtesy of flickr.com/cc0 and pixabay.com/cc0).
tú / negativo
This is where it gets tricky! Check out the 4-step process hijos!
- go to yo
- drop the -o
- add opposite ending (for -ar verbs = letter -e/for -er/-ir verbs = letter -a, weird huh?)
- plus -s for tú!
