A Message from Hoog and Rich
We are the lucky ones that get to show up at BSE each day and work side by side all of you. Teachers at BSE work tirelessly, lift one another up, and always do what is best for the team. This is why our students love coming to BSE. They see teachers that love one another and teammates that pick up the pieces when needed. So many of you are always ready to jump in and offer support no matter the situation.
It has been a year of firsts and we have learned a lot together. Not only have we been motivated by teachers and schools around us, we too have inspired some spark and energy because we have grit and we have determination. Thank you. You have done everything we have asked this year including keeping joy and having fun all the way until the end.
They will remember if we smile 20 more times.
They will remember if we lean in and listen to their insane story 20 more times.
They will remember that we hugged them 20 more times.
They will remember the 20 read alouds the last days of school.
They will remember the 20 math games the last days of school.
They will remember the 20 compliments during community circle.
They will remember you.
Let's be more than 20. Let's be 100. The tests will be completed, the assessments will be scored and entered. The rooms will get cleaned. And the checklist WILL be done. Let's be 100. Give yourself, your teammates, and your families all you've got left for 20 more days. Make them even better than the first 20 days. Do something you have never done before.

NWEA Testing is here!
- All K-4 students are now able to be assessed in reading and math as the NWEA window opens Monday!
- Please choose the day YOU will be testing for reading and math (we would really like both tests complete before May 14 end of day.)
- Kinder - please send invites directly to individual calendars to anyone that may offer sign in support for you if needed.
- For assigning accommodations in the system or scheduling support, please reach out to the appropriate specialists regarding IEPs, ILPs, 504, speech or alternate environments.
Who takes the NWEA?
All K-4 children will take both reading and math on student Ipads unless their parents have opted out (1 student only.)
Teachers will use https://www.nwea.org/ to facilitate testing. Put your email in for login and click forgot password to receive a temp password.
How?
- All children may test at their pace not exceeding 30 minutes for K-1 or 40 minutes for 2-4 without a quick movement/mindful break.
- All children may be offered breaks during test. If more than a 10 minute break is needed, the test should be paused and resumed later preferably the same day.
- General education children may be tested whole group, half the class, small group, or one on one.
- Children with an IEP/ILP/504 must follow specifics stated in plan for environment regarding small group, one on one, or text to speech etc. *Extended time does not pertain to NWEA.
Who facilitates NWEA?
Classroom teachers may facilitate testing for all children in their classroom and/or request support from a specialist.
What do I need?
- Please have 1-2 Ipads on hand in the event that one freezes.
- Headphones for K-1.
- Scratch paper for math.
- Pencils or marker boards.
- Laptop
- Radio/Phone OFF unless assistance is being requested.
What can support look like?
Support may include:
- Pull out children to test
- Push in to test
- Push in to monitor other children while classroom teacher facilitates testing.
How do I request support?
Please email the person directly to coordinate support. Jamie will coordinate support given by IAs.

F&P Benchmarks
How many success phone calls can you make over the next few weeks?
- All K-4 students are to be given the opportunity to demonstrate Word List Fluency, Reading Fluency/Accuracy & Comprehension/Writing through a formal F&P assessment.
- Please space these out in order to give each child your full self and to decrease your stress level.
- All Tier 3 students will be completed by Fatima. (Please email her if you have completed an F&P on a child receiving Tier 3 services post spring break.)
- All current reading levels should be recorded in the grade level Excel shared at the BOY no later than end of day May 13 for students receiving Tier 2 services and May 28 by noon for rest of class.
RTI One on Ones
- Please click here to sign up for your individual slot not exceeding 40 minutes to review NWEA data, successes and recommendations for Tier 2/3 for the 2019-20 school year.
- In order to remain on schedule the best we can please come prepared with all quantitative and qualitative data including Aimsweb charted online. The final day for Aimsweb data is May 10.
- If May 15 (Grades 3/4) and May 17 (Grades K-2) cause a conflict for you, please send Fatima directly with a calendar invite to meet at an alternate time.
- F&Ps and math benchmarks for all Tier 2/3 students should be complete and brought to the table. (Fatima will share Tier 3 F&Ps prior to this date.)
