August 28th, 2023
Labor Day Parade - Monday, September 4th
TAKE HOME INSTRUMENTS, EQUIPMENT, AND MUSIC ON FRIDAY. THE BAND ROOM WILL NOT BE OPEN ON MONDAY AT ALL. DRUM MAJORS, MAKE SURE TO BRING MACES HOME.
9:25 AM: Report to the parking lot at 300 N. Fremont St. in Champaign to assemble for parade. Enter the parking lot from the north entrance from Washington St.
Students should plan to leave their cases with parents or in cars because there is no secure place to put them and they cannot be carried on the route.
10:00 AM: Parade Begins.
11:30 AM/12:00 PM: Parade ends around the same parking lot we started.
Dress: Winds and percussion- UHS Bands Polo, khaki bottoms, tennis shoes. Sunglasses are allowed, but no hats. Color Guard- orange guard t-shirt, black bottoms, tennis shoes, and guard ribbon. Only bring pregame/tiger flag.
Route: The parade route will start at the corner of N. Chestnut St. and E. Main St. and then proceed through downtown Champaign on Walnut St., Chester St., Neil St., and Washington St., disbanding back around the same parking lot we started from.
Pick Up: Students should plan to be picked up after the parade near the original starting point. Transportation back to the high school will not be provided. Make sure to have a plan on how to get picked up. It might be easier to pick a place not as close to the end of the parade so you don’t have to worry about traffic.
**Make sure to eat breakfast and drink plenty of water beforehand. It may be hot and although the route isn’t long, it takes a lot of energy to march and play in the parade. We want to make sure everyone is safe.
Music: We will be performing Eye of the Tiger, Hey Baby, and On Urbana.
Water: Students, please think about bringing your own water. Draw string bags or light backpacks are great for carrying a water bottle, music, or whatever else you may need during this trip. We will also have parents available with water if this will be difficult for any student.
Free food: Following the parade, there will be free food, games for kids, and entertainment at Westside Park in Champaign. This is not required, it is optional for all students/families.
Important Uniform Info
Students will be fit for uniforms either tonight during our 6:30-8:30 pm rehearsal or on Monday, September 11th during our night rehearsal. Some important information about uniforms:
- All students will be taking their uniforms home and will be responsible for taking care of it and holding onto all parts.
- Please hang up uniforms when you get home, please don't leave it balled up on the floor somewhere. When we wear the uniforms, we are always representing Urbana and we want to look our best.
- Winds and percussion- Make sure to have plain, long black socks to wear with your uniform. No short socks allowed. We would also highly recommend wearing athletic shorts underneath your marching band pants for ease of changing.
- Always make sure to have all parts of your uniform anytime you are taking it somewhere- garment bag, black marching shoes, plain long black socks, black bibber pants, jacket, gauntlets, show shirt, gloves, and shako (hat). Color Guard- Kristi will give you a checklist of what you need to make sure you have for each performance.
- After performing in or wearing your uniform, make sure to hang it up with the garment bag unzipped to allow it to air out.
- If you lose any part of the uniform, you will be responsible for paying to replace it. Please keep track of ALL parts of your uniform.
