Tustumena Elementary Newsletter
January 8, 2014
Welcome to 2014!
I hope everyone had an enjoyable vacation. The kids are back to work with a clean slate because it is the beginning of the second semester. The second one usually goes by even faster than the first one, so hang on!
It is already that time of year when we start taking Kindergarten registrations. If you have a child who will be five years old by September 1, 2014 or you know someone who does, please have them register between January 27 -31.
Earlier this week I sent an email reminder about flu vaccinations being available this Friday. If your child has not been vaccinated and you would like to have them receive a free vaccination, please contact the school or download the form from the same email that you received this newsletter notice. The vaccinations will be nasal administration unless students have asthma or some other health concern that would prevent nasal application. They have come a long way from the "shots" I used to get as a kid. Just a little squirt up the nose and they are done.
We have Lynx Tracks field trips coming up next week. You should be receiving a permission slip from your teacher soon if you have not already. These field trips are always fun for the kids and a great reward for being a great student.
Cross-Country ski club starts Tuesday, January 21st. Students in grades 4-6 can participate every Tuesday and Thursday until February 27th. Club starts right after school and ends at 5pm. Permission slips are required and can be picked up from Mr. Michael or the office.
The Mighty Meatballs are coming! Our annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be on February 7th. I know where I am taking Mrs. Hayman for our Valentine's dinner!
Tustumena will be hosting the district Forensics match again this year. It will take place on Saturday, March 1st. We need about a dozen adult volunteers to help with things. If you can volunteer, please contact the office.
On March 1st, we will also be hosting the First Annual Tustumena Moose Chase and Ski Race. It will be a fun cross-country ski race with heats for ages 8 and up. More details will follow.
