II. Catholic Churches in the Middle Ages
Catholic Churches played a major role in every day life during the middle ages. During the Middle Ages, the Catholic Churches became very rich and powerful. At one point, the churches owned more than one third of all land in Western Europe, and dint have to pay the king any land taxes. The most powerful man within the Catholic power system was the pope, and next down were the cardinals.
III. The Black Death
The Black Death was one of the most well known European plagues of all time. It went on to devastate most of Europe's population in the early 1347 through the 1352. The fleas and rats that came across seas from cities trading from Europe carried the disease and transferred it to the people.
IV. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and The Children's crusades.
These crusades went on for nearly 100 years, all together. The first crusade went from 1096-1099. It was fought by a peasant army. The second crusade went from 1147-1149, and was when Saladin took control of the Holy Lands. The third. Rushed went from 1189-1193, and was the longest crusade to date. The Children's Crusade was a crusade led by children(most of whom were under the age of 12.) A young boy supposedly heard the word of god, and gathered up an army to go to the Holy Lands, and defeat the Muslims. They did not make it to the Holy Lands, and had to stop, turn around, and go home.
V. Spanish Inquisition in the Middle Ages
The Spanish Inquisition was began by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella in the beginning of the 17th century. The purpose of the Spanish Inquisition was to purify Spain of all people that did not believe in the catholic branch of religion. In other words, the king Md queen wanted to get rid of everyone that wasn't Catholic, or what they called the heretics.
IV. Feudalism in the Middle Ages
Feudalism is. A system of land ownership and duties. A lord offers land to a vassal, and the vassal agrees to own the land s long as he gives The Lord military protection. Then the vassal becomes the tenant to the peasent, and the peasent has to share crops, work, and gets MITlitary protection in return.
V. Manorialism In the Middle Ages
Manorialism is the system by which the Lord of the Manor exploited the serfs or tenants that worked on his estate. Middle Ages manorialism was based on the orginazation of a rural(country) economy and society.
VI. Popes and Kings
In the Middle Ages, the Pope was the head of the Catholic church. People thought of the Pope as a messenger of God's on Earth.Kings usually inherited the throne. As the Pope's power increased, the kings and Popes started clashing, and they would argue about nominations, and whether or not to choose religious officials to uphold office from the poilitical standpoint.
Medici Family
The Medici was a family that lived in the late Middle Ages. When people think of them, they think of money, and this is because this family began the first banks in the world. The public could finally have a safe holding place for money, and could finally draw out loans.
Medevial Churches and Their Design
During the middle Ages, the Gothic style of art came to be. It was a very elaborate and expressive type of Medieval art, and was usually applied to building churches, and to putting artwork in churches. Gothic churches also have a design that best shows off the characteristics of a building, and the architectural structure of the building. These buildings usually were counterparted by vaulting ceilings and ornate columns, and most of the Gothic churches had the same basic layout.
