Half Day School
World's Fair
Third-graders stepped back in time to visit the Chicago World's Fair of 1893. Over 27 million visitors came from around the world to experience the fair. Here at Half Day, children wore period clothing as if they were living at the end of the 19th century. At the Half Day fair, a number of children also wore clothing that represented the countries of their origin.
The third-grade team did an outstanding job of providing booths from various countries. Students learned interesting facts about Brazil, China, France, India, Nigeria, and Poland. Other exhibits mirrored those that visitors may have experienced at the real world’s fair such as the Palace of Fine Arts and the Administration Building. In addition, the teachers made the fair lively with artifacts and flags from different countries as well as crafts and games from that era. A highlight of the fair for many students was a visit to the fortune teller and a fairy floss treat. Included in the fair was a depiction of the ‘White City,” which is what the Fairgrounds came to be called by visitors because all of the buildings were painted white, representing Chicago's claim to a place among the world's most important cities.
For pictures of the activities, please visit the school's Google Doc folder.
Musical Notes
Many of the students from the fifth-grade chorus sang during a Wolves Game at All State Arena earlier this month. Students also shared their love of music during a recent spring concert at Stevenson High School. For pictures of the event, please visit the school's Google Doc Folder.

Moving Ahead
Classroom placement is an important process for our students, and our teachers and staff invest significant time and effort to ensure the creation of healthy learning groups and environments. It is important to develop balanced classrooms by considering students’ gender, academic, social, and emotional needs. We strive to create an optimal learning environment for students in each of our teacher’s classrooms.
If you wish to share more specific information about your child's placement, please indicate your thoughts on this Optional Parent Input Form. Please read the e-bulletin for details.
