SD 308 STUDENTS NOT IN ATTENDANCE NEXT WEEK
Oswego Community Unit School District 308 will not have students in attendance at school next week.
The institute day has been moved from Tuesday, March 17 to Monday, March 16.
Students will not have access to school buildings once they leave today, so they are being instructed to take all important belongings and textbooks home with them today.
Building nurses and administrators will be present in the building next week, so medications can be signed out by parents if needed while students are not in school.
The district will not have students present in school buildings Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20 and possibly longer depending on the health risk in our community (Spring Break is March 23-30).
Staff will attend institute day on Monday, March 16.
Details regarding an e-learning or alternative learning plan for students while school is closed will be sent out to all district families no later than Monday afternoon.
Resources for students who do not have access to electronic devices or the internet will be shared soon.
Food pick-up will be available to families in need, more information is coming soon.
Schools will still serve as polling places for the election on Tuesday, March 17.
Additional details for staff will also be sent this afternoon.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to develop details for the coming week. We wanted you to have this information as early as possible to prepare.
Traughber Beginner Band Appointments
Hello Future Band Families,
Due to the current health concerns with the flu and the spread of the coronavirus, we will be postponing Traughber Beginner Band Appointments until after Spring Break. Our top priority is keeping students and families healthy. We will hold your appointment time for you and when we are able to determine a new date those appointments will be in place along with an alternate date/time option.
We are very excited to meet our 150+ new band members but we would rather be cautious when it comes to your health! We will be here for you when we have our new date.
Please spread the word and keep an eye on email for new information!

Cold and influenza season is upon us. To prevent widespread flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms. To decide whether or not to send your child to school, please consider the following guidelines:
Consider keeping your child at home for an extra day of rest and observation if he or she has any of the following symptoms:
• Very stuffy or runny nose and/or cough
• Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep)
Definitely keep your child at home for treatment and observation if he or she has any of these symptoms:
• Fever (greater than 100 degrees) Your child may return to school only after his or her temperature has been below 100 degrees (without the use of fever reducing medication) for a minimum of 24 hours
• Vomiting (even once)
. Chills
To help prevent the flu and other colds, teach your children good hygiene habits:
• Wash hands frequently
• Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth
• Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing. Use a paper tissue, throw it away and wash hands. If a tissue is not available, cough or sneeze into your elbow and wash hands as soon as possible.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Cold and influenza viruses are the most contagious during the first 48 hours. Often when a child awakens with vague complaints (the way colds and flu begin) it is wise to observe your child at home for an hour or two before deciding whether or not to send them to school. Keeping a sick child at home will minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom.
Thank you in advance for helping us keep kids safe at school.
P.E. Reminder
Please provide your child with a pair of gym shoes at school. It is difficult to remember which day P.E. is due to the A, B, C schedule. Also, please help your child learn to tie shoes, it will save a lot of time in P.E.
Thank you,
The P.E. Department
Friendly reminders for Arrival & Dismissal
* Always pull all the way forward as directed by staff.
* For safety, students must enter and exit on the passenger side only.
* Drivers are to remain in the car at all times.
* Encourage your student to be respectful in line and watch for your car at dismissal.
* Display your student's name card in your car window.
* Cell phone use in school zones is against the law.
* For arrival, dismissal and the safety of your student, please do not park in the inner lot and cross the parking lot.
New Morning Procedure
We have one change in our morning procedure that we would like to bring to your attention.
Morning drop off between 8:30-8:45am will be limited to students eating breakfast only. Breakfast students who arrive between 8:30 and 8:45am will need to be walked to Door #9 to enter the gym. Breakfast will continue to be offered from 8:45 - 9am for any students who arrive during this time.
Drop-off for all other students will begin at 8:45am. Students who ride the bus and walk will enter through Door #4. Students who are dropped off by car will proceed through the drop-off line and enter through Door #2 and Door #10. These doors are not a change from last year. Please note that the only supervision between 8:30-8:45am will be in the cafeteria for breakfast students. Please do not have your child arrive prior to 8:45am unless they are here for breakfast.
