Summary
Jonas receives many peculiar memories of the past. The memories Jonas receives are both good and bad. For example, one of the good memories is of festivals and the art of dancing, but one of the bad memories he gets is of wars and battles and killing. The way The Giver gives Jonas memories is by placing his hands on Jonas' back. The first memories he gets are good, but as the story progresses, the memories get even more interesting!
Main Character
The main character in "The Giver" is Jonas. Jonas was a normal teenager living the normal life in the utopian society. Until the Ceremony of Twelve came where Jonas was chosen as the next receiver in the line. Jonas' is keeping all the memories of the community safe and sound. Jonas was getting training during his job by the current receiver, also known as the Giver.

The Giver
The Giver was the trainer of the trainee, also known as Jonas. The Giver was the one who gave Jonas all of the memories of the past. The Giver was the previous receiver before Jonas.
Fiona
One of Jonas' classmates as well as Jonas' best friend, Fiona was an important character in the book because she helped Jonas all along his journey. Fiona and Jonas were very close. Fiona assisted in the saving of the society's memories.
Asher
Asher is also another very important character in The Giver. Asher is known to be very silly, but also good-natured and playful. He would never hurt anyone. Along with Fiona, Asher was Jonas' best friend and helped Jonas' journey.
My Favorite Quote
My favorite quote of this whole novel is, "We gained control of many things. But we had to let go of others." This quote basically means, we've gained lots of things, but with all these things, we've had to sacrifice.

I liked The Giver because it's a very interesting series of events as we side by Jonas through his journey to save the memories of the past. It was very suspenseful to see what would happen next and how the story would end. Overall, I would rate it a very great book and I would recommend it.
