A note from the Principal . . .
2/10/23
Dear Zion Benton parents,
We are currently in the time frame where we have the opportunity to participate in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This opportunity allows you to share your views on important elements of school effectiveness. The results from the survey will provide a rich picture of the inner workings of your school from an organizational perspective. The QR code below will take you to the survey. Please complete it at your earliest convenience.
Our Black History month program will be taking place on February 25th, in our Performing Arts Center from 12 to 3 pm. Please come on out to enjoy and celebrate Black History with our students and community members.
In honor of celebrating our students attendance habits, we will also be conducting our first annual “Winter Snowball Dance” on February 18th from 6 to 9 PM. Students who have maintained a 95% attendance rate from January 23rd - February 10th are eligible to purchase a ticket. Please continue to encourage your students attendance habits as it is directly tied to their academic success. Our school district’s vision is to empower students to thrive in today’s global society and being present and on time, is a characteristic for success. As always . . . You Matter, You are Important, We are Proud, and We Bee-lieve!

Black History Month Celebration
9th Grade on Track Ceremony
At the end of January, we honored all of our 9th grade students who earned all of their semester one credits. Students identified as “on track” have earned at least five full-year course credits (10 semester credits) and have earned no more than one semester “F” in a core course (English, math, science, or social science).
1000 POINTS
On Wednesday, 2/9/2023, in front of a crowded gym, Jaliece "LeLe" Russel reached the 1000 point mark off of a defensive steal followed up with a lay-up. The crowd erupted in cheers for LeLe as the game was stopped and she was presented with the game ball as well as a ball purchased by Coach Lindstrom to commemorate her awesome achievement. Congrats to LeLe (and her mom Crystal) for an amazing accomplishment and high school career! In the picture above you will see the a pic of the presentation made to her moments after she reached the milestone.

Navy JROTC National Marksmanship Championship in Utah
Twenty-one, four person teams and 37 individuals comprising 121 competitors, advanced to the Championship that was held this past weekend in Sandy, Utah. This was a two day event where the scores were added together from both days to give the athletes their qualification score. The top 8 individuals from the two day competition advanced to a 10 shot standing final. In the final athletes shoot one shot at a time (50 seconds) where their score from each shot is added to their qualification score to determine the National Champion. Brayden Rich finished in 6th place, Kalinn White finished in 8th place, Brianna Benedetto claimed the National Championship with 1st place.
Technology Tidbits
We are living in an increasingly mobile and digitally connected world. Technology has changed the way we receive and share information, communicate, and engage. As our community becomes increasingly connected, it is imperative that we have the digital literacy skills needed to successfully participate and support our children in our digitally connected global society.
In partnership with ISTE, Dell Technologies has developed digital literacy resources for parents and caregivers that focus on strengthening the digital literacy skills needed to be successful in work, empowered as citizens, and fulfilled in life, including supporting online safety and privacy. A questionnaire allows you to determine your strengths and areas of growth related to locating content, evaluating sources, interpreting information, expressing ideas, communicating with others and navigating technology ecosystems. It also provides resources focused on supporting a healthy entertainment diet, digital learning, and online safety and privacy. We encourage you to take the questionnaire to learn more about your digital literacy as well as strategies for helping your child.
