Where the Adventure Begins...
HAPPY FRIDAY!!
This week we are excited to announce Mrs. Natalie Johnson as our TEACHER OF THE YEAR for ECS!!! She was nominated by her peers. She is passionate about her students' success in all areas, not just academically! She is dedicated to ensuring they also excel socially and emotionally as they learn to be contributing members of their classroom and good friends to their classmates. Mrs. Johnson is always positive and professional, and is an encouragement to each and every one of us! THANK YOU to Mrs. Johnson for being such a model in our school!
Next week is our last week for our annual fundraiser, ONE AND DONE! Thank you to everyone for continuing to turn in your donations. If you have not made a donation yet, please consider sending in one next week. No amount is too small! Thanks to everyone for participating and for supporting our school!
REMINDER: Tuesday, November 13th is our annual Math & Literacy Night from 5:30-6:30! We would LOVE all of you to join us. You will be greeted with a shopping bag and a free book for the first 350 attendees. Then you will continue to the designated location for the program your child attends. Our teachers will have tables set up with materials to teach you activities you can take and do at home with your child in the areas of math and literacy! This will be an excellent way for you to work with your child at home. You will not want to miss this!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Celebrating Veteran's Day November 12th!!
Dear Parents,
We will be observing Veteran’s Day on Monday, November 12th. As Veterans' Day approaches, we are writing to ask you for help regarding a special project. This year, we would like to honor those who may have parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, other relatives, or even friends who are military veterans or active duty. Whether they served in the United States or another country we welcome all.
We are also asking if you could please email or send us a picture of the service-member. Please keep in mind that this photo will not be returned. The following information is what we will need along with the photo.
Student's name:
Veteran’s/service member name:
Relationship to student:
Military Branch:
We want to encourage everyone to wear Red, White and Blue or something that represents the service in which their loved ones served. We appreciate the extraordinary sacrifice our veterans have made for our country and hope you will help us to honor them in a special way.
Thank you so much!

For most, the fall gets us excited about the cooler weather and upcoming holidays. It’s also a time to celebrate with family, friends, and good food. Many eagerly count down the days with joy and the anticipation of spending time with family. However, for others, the holiday may trigger other feelings like sadness and loneliness due to the loss of a loved one.
Our young students may not understand the permanence of death, but can sense changes in the home. Preschoolers can observe changes in mood and notice when parents are not functioning in a normal way. They may also feel anxious due to people coming in and out of the home and changes in routine. For this reason, it’s important to acknowledge their feelings to avoid distress. Also, keep in mind that older preschoolers may ask questions, so you will need to use words they understand. Using terms like “loss” or “sleeping” can be confusing and make death seem temporary.
As caretakers of young children, you should take time to acknowledge personal limitations during bereavement. For instance, re-evaluate which activities and traditions are meaningful for you and for the family. You may discover some may bring up negative emotions. However, other activities can help heal a grieving family. Examples of activities include: tell stories about the loved one, display photos in the home or give one to your child to display, create or review a photo album with the child, plant a tree in memory of the person. During the holidays you can also share the person’s favorite book, food, or make or open a memory box.
It’s important for caregivers to bereave in front of children and discuss fears, fatigue, and worries. Praise your child for grieving and encourage a sense of hope. Likewise, it’s important to accept different ways of grieving and not try to “fix” how others grieve. Encourage them to play out what they have seen, felt or heard. Read books about grief to help them navigate through the grieving process.
