Survivors of Bullying Group

Big picture

This semester your middle and high school counselor, Mrs. Schleifer, ran small group counseling with students that survived bullying and wanted to work on healing from those experiences. We know that many students at ISPA came here because they were bullied at their former schools and our group wanted to share some tips for healing from bullying with those students.

- Bullies often leave us feeling like something is wrong with us or we are not good enough. It is important to remind yourself that just because your bully said something negative about you does NOT mean it is true. In fact, it most likely is NOT true.

- Though it may seem easier to avoid talking being bullied, it can be incredibly healing to share your story with someone who will listen with compassion. Mrs. Schleifer is ALWAYS available to students that want to talk about being bullied and how it is affecting them.

- Know that you are not alone and it is okay to feel the way you feel about what happened. We are all human and react to bullying in different ways. None of us are perfect and that is OKAY.

- Try not to think of yourself as a victim of bullying, but as a SURVIVOR of bullying. You are stronger than you think and capable of learning and growing from these painful experiences of the past!

- Sometimes being bullied can affect us for years after the actual bullying stops. If you are still struggling and want to heal please join Mrs. Schleifer’s Survivors of Bullying group next year!
