2nd Grade
Next week in math, we will add using the part-part total strategy, add with open number lines, and add with pictorial representation models.
I love working with my second grade students. They are hard working, eager to learn, and lots of fun as they work daily. They are doing a super job with being Ready, Responsible and Respectful during FOCUS! Keep up the great work!
Have a great weekend!
3rd Grade
Students received a Continental Math League (CML) problem solving sheet that is due next Friday, September 14th. Continental Math League is a nationwide mathematics problem-solving competition. CML homework consists of problems from previous years' CML quizzes. Students are expected to spend no more than 15-20 minutes on each problem. They have a week to complete the assignment, so students could complete a problem a night. Students MUST show their work to solve each of the problems. If they can't find a solution, they need to stop working on the problem and write down what they tried. Then get a parent to initial that problem. Students are not expected to have mastery of all of the skills and strategies necessary to solve all the problems. Yet, students are expected to ATTEMPT all problems using creativity, perseverance, independent thinking, diligence, and the skills and strategies they have learned thus far. We will review these problems in class on Friday. Students will alternate between Math Rules and CMLs throughout the year.
Next week in math we will continue with multiplication. We will use arrays to represent multiplication and word problems that students solve with multiplication.
I am enjoying working with my third graders. We are still working on getting organized, so that we can have all of our materials and homework daily. Please help your student get Ready, Responsible, and Respectful. Thank you for all of your support. Have a great weekend!
5th Grade
Next week we will continue with multiplication. I will introduce the algorithm for division and we will work on problem solving. Our test will be next Thursday, Sept. 13th.
Please make sure that your student is here every day so that we don't get behind in our learning. When students are absent, they still need to make up their work. Thanks so much.
Have a great weekend.
