A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
A reminder that we do have a number of days that have been added to our calendar to make up for the snow days. (See below for specifics). We know many of you plan family visits and vacations around the school calendar. We understand that it may not be possible for you to change these arrangements, but we hope to see your wonderful children join us on these added days!
While students and staff enjoy Spring Break off (March 27 through March 31), we would like to remind you to encourage your children to read. Fit in a visit to the library, or pick up a favorite magazine (Ranger Rick, Sports Illustrated for Kids, Highlights for Children). Ask your children questions about what they are reading; for example: What do they like about the author? What has happened so far? What do they think will happen next? What would you have done if you were the character? Here is a link to a bookmark that you can use that give suggestions about questions you can ask your child before, during, and after their reading.
And incorporate a little math into the week by pointing our all the ways we have math in our lives (clocks, speed limits signs, weather/temperature). Here is a great article about engaging in math talk with your kids. It is easier than you think.
Hope you get a chance to enjoy a little time with your children during that week. And thank you again for letting Patrick Staff be a part of your child's academic experience. We feel so lucky to have your children at our school.
Your head Panther,

Patrick's Community Garden Update
We are looking to start Garden Boxes for each class, donated by the wonderful Strange family. Students will get to help decorate the boxes and our goal is to make a Butterfly Weigh Station where we are officially marked on a map as a butterfly sanctuary!
We are hoping to have the boxes at PES in April and begin planting seeds shortly there after!
Final Book Fair
This will be our final book fair of the year so you won't want to miss out on this one; and don't forget to stock up on some great summer reading for your kiddo's.

The form suggests Feb 1, 2017. Since we are testing later in the spring, we ask that you have it to us no later than March 10, 2017, so we can submit to the state.

A big thank you to our PTO for bagging, and passing out popcorn to our Panther's for February Popcorn Friday. Popcorn Friday's are always the Friday after the month's PTO meeting; if you have a couple of hours free and would like to help with this event please contact a PTO board member.
Thanks to Mrs. Doran and Ms. Medina for sponsoring February movie night! Thank you to all the Patrick families who attended and enjoyed the viewing of The Lorax.
Figaro's always generously donates pizza lunch for our students of the month, we sure appreciate their continued support. Make sure to thank them next time you are in picking up your pizza for your family.
We appreciate our volunteers and all that they do for our Panthers.
Rogue Valley Farm to School is offers monthly sampling's in our cafeteria through the Tasting Tables program! Keep an eye out for the monthly recipe and health information flyer. Ask your student what fresh and local harvest items they have tried recently.
In the month of February 56% of all D6 elementary students tasted winter squash in oatmeal breakfast bars!
If you're interested in getting involved and seeing the Tasting Tables in action, please contact: email@example.com
