As we come to the start of another successful school year, I want to thank all of the cadets, the Viking Parent Support Group, the WSHS Viking community, and our parents/guardians for all of your support. We could not have made it this far and developed a firm foundation to take on our two major challenges for this coming year inspection by 4th Brigade and continue to grow the Viking Battalion. Therefore, I will simply say welcome to the battalion and here you will learn a bit more about our outstanding leaders in the chain of command this year. The 2016-2017 school year leaders are shooting to reach for great heights.
Army Senior Leader/ROTC Professional Mentor Forum
On November 1st cadets Monica Barrera, Karen Ordonez, and Nathaniel Gaines went to a mentor forum held at Cramton Auditorium on Howard University campus. During the event top military personnel attended and where asked questions and gave answers. This event was made to engage cadets in discussion with key Army leaders on topics of interest. Members from JAG(Don’t abbreviate), medical fields, G-1,and G-3(What be this). Also in attendance was the esteemed Secretary of the Army Eric Fanning.
Staff Work Day
On November 5th the battalion Staff attended a workday. The staff and company met at school at around 7 am and collaborated on the tasks given to them by the BC, XO, and SGM, as well as planned for future events. They found it to be very successful and completed all tasks.
KEY Sorority
Kappa Epsilon Psi Military Sorority caters exclusively to women of the U.S. Armed Forces. Formed as an alternative to traditional organizations for female service members, they offer membership in a Greek-letter sorority that is Second to None. They have provided scholarships to deserving females to our battalion and is an impressive organization that we owe much gratitude to. Below is a link to their website.
Veterans Day Parade/Raider Meet
November 12th turned out to one of the busiest events this month as it had two events at the same time: The Veterans Day parade, and the Raider Team drill meet. Regardless we rose to the challenge. Cadets that participated in the parade received many kind words from parents on their performance and cadets on the Raider team, even though they did not place, surpassed their personal records and came home proud.

Viking Parent Support Group
The Battalion would like to thank the VPSG for all they've done for us these past two schools years. We appreciate all your hard work in making our program better. We can never fully repay your acts of kindness, however we can try by continuing to do our absolute best at our in coming events and have our most successful school year yet.
Wreaths Across America
Early October, the JROTC Viking Battalion 6th period’s was fundraising in sponsor of Wreaths Across America for their Community Service Learning Project. Wreaths Across America is an organization dedicated to honoring and remembering our fallen servicemen and women. These service members have given so much for our country and this holiday season we are privileged to remember those who served by raising money for a cause that’s fits our JROTC curriculum. This year the Woodbridge Viking Battalion had a goal to raise $1,000 worth of wreath sponsorships and we’ve managed to raise an amazing sum of $4,300.
Thank You Vikings & How You Can Join Us!
With the combined efforts of students, teachers, staff, and our Viking Battalion, enough money was raised for 266 Service Members to receive a wreath on their grave in memory of their service. The Woodbridge Viking Battalion and community members will travel to Arlington National Cemetery on Saturday, December 17th to lay all the sponsored wreaths. We invite you all to come along and participate in the wreath laying ceremony. If you plan on attending signup, and get a permission slip from LTC (Ret.) Victor Burnette in the JROTC hallway. Thank you to our Viking Battalion, Staff, and Students for your involvement in our fundraiser. It’s an honor that we get to go support service members who have gallantly served in uniform.
