SOS Day
On Monday, October 2nd, Platte County High School will offer depression awareness and suicide prevention training as a part of the SOS Signs of Suicide Prevention Program.
This program aims to help students recognize the symptoms of depression and warning signs of suicide in themselves or their friends and to teach them the appropriate action steps they should take to get help. Our goals in participating in this program are straightforward:
- To reduce stigma and help our students understand that depression is a treatable mental illness.
- To explain that suicide is a preventable tragedy that often occurs as a result of untreated depression.
- To provide students training in how to identify serious depression and potential suicidality in themselves or a friend.
- To impress upon youth that they can help themselves or a friend by taking the simple step of talking to a responsible adult about their concerns.
- To help students know whom in the school they can turn to for help, if they need it.
Teachers who will be facilitating this program have received in their mailboxes manila envelopes with all of the information and forms needed to implement this program. Listed below is a list of alternate location assignments. Teachers whose 2nd period class will be meeting in an alternate location need to be sure to inform their students of this alternate location arrangement prior to Monday. A list of students whose parents have completed the opt-out form will be sent Monday morning. After taking attendance, these opt-out students need to report to the Library where an accounting of their presence will also be taken again by the Librarians.
If a student becomes upset during the 2nd period presentation and is unable to remain in the classroom, please send the student to the Library (main building teachers) or the Paxton Office (Paxton teachers), where someone will be prepared to help them.
Thank you, again, for your assistance in making this program a success! We couldn't do this without all of you!!!
Staff Reminders
- Please keep students in the classrooms unless they have a pass to use the restroom, or nurse, etc. There are too many students just roaming the halls during class.
- If you are taking your class somewhere different than usual, please alert the office/Welcome desk. We need to know where our students are at all times.
- Take attendance every hour.
- Keep your lunch balance in the positive - you can check it in SIS on the main page.
Please check your mailbox on a weekly basis and remove all items.
Just a reminder that teachers are not to be collecting student fees. Please send a list of your students to the office, include the amount and reason the fee is owed. We will input the information onto the students SISK12 account, and when payment is made it will be recorded. (The only exception to this rule is if it is a fundraiser.)
When making a deposit, be sure to fill out the deposit form that is located by the safe in the workroom (under computer) or in a slot on the right-hand side of the mailboxes. Please remember to stamp all checks with stamp located on top of safe. Also make sure you have a second staff member double count and sign off on your deposit. No monies should be kept in your room. All deposit should be placed in the safe.
