The Sparkle Box & The Giving Tree

This time of year is beautiful for many families, and very heavy-on-the-heart for others in our community. Gratitude for what we have and giving to those is need helps us appreciate all the wondrous blessings we do have.

To help un-burden hearts a little and to spread joy and light, we have a Giving Tree in our front entrance. There you will see all kinds of items that people have donated or will donate, from mitts, tuques, jackets, food, backpacks, diapers, Christmas gifts for children, teens or adults.

You and your family are invited to spread joy and light by placing your donations there, and we will help ensure they find their way to the hearts of those in our community. Donating is something that you can put in your "Sparkle Box..." Ask your child about it if they have had a chance to read with Mme Gravelle!

Helping OLA Get Into the Spirit of Christmas

Thank you for your help in decorating the school by sharing your extra decorations!

We are looking for families who would be willing to donate:

  • a few Christmas Trees
  • Some Christmas lights,
  • Christmas and winter decorations
  • White table cloths (of any size)
  • A manger with hay

Thank you for donating items that you would be proud to display, and that are in good condition.

Love decorating? You are welcome to come and decorate the school! Some of the Servant Leadership Team members would be delighted to help you!

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Buban, Mme Gravelle or Mrs. Weller at 780-998-3716 ext. 1.

Yohann Sebastien Bach Visited OLA!

Bravo to our amazing music teacher, Mrs. Lukie for bringing music alive by welcoming composer Bach to OLA!

School Fees and Field Trip & Presentation Fees

Thank you to all the families who have already paid their school fees - we certainly appreciate your prompt attention. If you have not already done so, please visit your child's PowerSchool acccount and see if there are outstanding fees owing. We will be sending home statements for all outstanding school fees next week. Thank you.

Thank you and Welcome

As discussed at our November School Council meeting, OLA, EICS and School Divisions throughout the province have been making adjustments to their budgets and staffing to meet the mid-year budget reductions in Education. You're invited to join us on December 19th at 9:00am to continue this conversation and gain a better understanding of OLA's future.

OLA reduced it's 2019-2020 budget by reducing Professional Development expenditures, Collaborative Response Model format, Furniture and Supply spending as well as other reductions to expenses that will be implemented throughout the year. While OLA did not reduce staffing as a result of the October 24th budget, staffing adjustments are necessary as members of the greater EICS community.

We are grateful for the time we worked alongside Mrs. Callina Artymko and we thank her for the many gifts she brought to the PreKindergarten/Kindergarten community. We wish her many blessings and we look forward to seeing her at OLA in the future. Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Lisa Melnychuk to the PreK/K team and the OLA family.

Additionally, we thank Mrs. Susan Wagner for her expertise and passion as OLA's Librarian. She too brought many gifts to OLA and we wish her abundant joyful adventures. Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Virginia Merrick to the OLA family as our new Librarian.

Mrs. Artymko's and Mrs. Wagner's last day with us will be Thursday, December 19, 2019. Mrs. Merrick will join us on Monday, January 6, 2020 and Mrs. Melnychuk join OLA on Tuesday, January 8, 2020.

Although reduced budgets is not positive news for our school and community, the OLA Leadership Team and OLA Staff remain confident that we will continue to offer excellent Catholic education to all of our students. We are blessed to work in partnership within a community that supports our mandate to serve in the light of Christ, and help each child grow academically, spiritually, socially and emotionally.

If you have any questions about OLA's budget moving forward, or its future context, please join us on December 19 @ 9:30am for the OLA School Council Meeting.

"The time before Christmas calls us to ask ourselves: What is the great desire of my heart? It is God Himself who puts this “thirst” in our hearts. And He comes to meet us by this route, wherever there is hunger and thirst for peace, hunger and thirst for justice, freedom and love."
